horst
i posted in the lounge awhile back about my Dad being diagnosed with liver cancer.Hes been pretty sick for the last 6 months or so and getting chemo on top of it hasnt helped.Hes been feeling a letter better the last few weeks and kept talking about going fishing.Well yeterday I finished work early, so I told him to go buy a license and Id take him down to the dam and see if there were any northerns still in it.Usually theyve all moved back out by now but the waters been so high this year I figured they had no reason to move back out. We got there and theres carp and bullheads swarming everywhere, nobody else is fishing and Im thinking its gonna be a waste of time.We brought my oldest son along and i figured nothing else he could snag carp while we fished About 10 minutes after we got there dad gets hung up in the rocks, he gets his lure free and just tosses it back out in front of him by hand so he can reel it in.He takes about 2 cranks on his reel and the water just explodes in front of him.I yell at my son to get the net and dad gets the fish to shore a few minutes later after a terriffic fight, its a real nice 34 inch northern, probably 11 -11 1/2 lbs, best one Ive seen come outta there all spring. A few casts later I hook into something, and I cant turn it around, its another awesome fight, after about 10 minutes I pull in what Im gonna guesse to be a 20 Plus lb carp that I snagged by the tail. After that I switch over to a green color rapala and almost immediately miss a northern that hit it right at shore. Then the buffaloheads start hammering it and I catch 2 of them in about 5 mnutes.Things just quit altogether for about an hour and a half after that and were thinking about leaving. I make another cast and something smacks it as soon it hits the water, its another big northern. This one straightens out my treble hook and gets off. Then dads got another fish on, he lands another 30 inch northern.I get yet another one on and he cuts me off. They just started going nuts.Austin misses one right at shore and dad has another one in the 10 lb range follow him up and just sit there in front of him.I get another hit after I tie a lure on and this one is a jumper, he keeps coming outta the water and its gotta be one of my favorite things to watch a fish that size jumping and hitting the water. He pops the hook out though.2 casts later he hits it again and I land a 27 inch northern. In the meantime Austin finally gets a fish on, its a 7 or 8 lb carp but he doesnt care, he just has fun catching anything.Things calmed down again and we left. Ill admitt it was probably one of my most memorable fishing trips, not because of the fish we caught though.A couple months ago dad couldnt even get off the couch, I really didnt know if Id ever get to take another fishing trip with him.Seeing him land that first big northern was almost like watching your kid land his first fish, something you cant quite explain but youll never forget either
hutchies
Re: Good afternoon That is wonderful that you got to spend that time with him. Hopefully Dad will get to make some more trips. I am sure your son will never forget that day.
