DWC
with camo changing for the better and all the new camo thats comeing out would it be better to use a stand or to hunt from the ground???????
Tominator
Re: ?treestands or hunt off the grond A lot depends on your terrain. If you have decent trees to climb, you're better off up a tree IMHO because it gets your scent off the ground, and you can get away with a lot more movement up in a tree. Guest gfourhunter
Re: ?treestands or hunt off the grond tominator is correct. also in a stand it helps you get over weeds and stumps ect. makes a better shot for you. when im on the ground i sometimes end up doing a walk about. when in a stand it keep me in one spot longer. hobie
Re: ?treestands or hunt off the grond Have to agree with Tominator I see a lot more game while in the tree stand.I believe that is due to scent and movement not being seen off the ground Another choice is a scent elimanating ground blind
BIG_BUCK_1
Re: ?treestands or hunt off the grond I prefer the treestand because: 1) you can see farther 2) they have a harder time of smelling you
buckee
Re: ?treestands or hunt off the grond I like still hunting, tree-stands and ground blinds all about the same, depending on where you are hunting. In the places I have tree-stands..the tree is the best place to be. In the places I have ground-blinds, there are no trees And the places I still-hunt are best suited for treestands or still-hunting to cover more ground. You just gotta do, what you gotta do to get er done. IMO
hutchies
Re: ?treestands or hunt off the grond 3. They have a harder time seeing you 4.Don't have to worry about other animals coming in
Rhino
Re: ?treestands or hunt off the grond I hunt from both treestands and off the ground. For me it all depends on the situation. It has nothing to do with my camo either. In either case I want good cover to break me up. Most of my ground hunting is with blinds made of natural vegetation for bowhunting. Even when I'm hunting out of a treestand I look for options to set up my stand with lots of cover around me. I'll even hang limbs around my treestand to add cover if I need to. I also don't like planning my setting up (ground blind or treestand) where a deer is not looking directly at me when it approaches.

ThethirdI
Re: ?treestands or hunt off the grond Whatever the situation calls for. Although I prefer treestands I will hunt off of the ground if it is a spot that I think is good.
Guest Finn
Re: ?treestands or hunt off the grond I always hunt from a treestand...just like being able to see farther and be hidden a little better.

Doc
Re: ?treestands or hunt off the grond I am now a confirmed ground stand hunter. Fear of heights will do that to you ....lol. However, I have in the past hunted from treestands and will readily admit the advantages of being elevated. I will say that success from the ground, or even unsuccessful encounters from the ground are probably the most heart-pounding experiences of my life. There is definitely an added burst of adrenaline when you are eyeball to eyeball with a deer that you just know has everything stacked in his favor. There is absolutely no room for error! Also, while ground-standing definitely gives up a bunch of advantages, it is by no means an impossible task to get some very nice deer at exceptionally close ranges. There have been a few times when I have had deer so close that if my hand-speed was great enough, I could have reached out and touched them. Now that's when deer hunting can get pretty darned exciting! Doc

HarvDog
Re: ?treestands or hunt off the grond I have only hunted from the ground twice with no luck. I definitely prefer an elevated location.

longislandhunter
Re: ?treestands or hunt off the grond Much tougher from the ground, however also more challenging. I hunt from the gound once in a while if the conditions are right, I enjoy the added challenge,,,, and added frustration.
too_pointer
Re: ?treestands or hunt off the grond In the past the majority of my hunting was out of trees, these days almost all from the ground. One good thing is if your up in a tree and the wind changed direction, you just can't pack and move as easily than a ground set up. Your camo and scent is much more important on the ground though. too_pointer

Jeramie
Re: ?treestands or hunt off the grond In missouri I would be in a tree. There are plenty of Oaks around that will support you properly. I always hunt from a tree (during bow season) if possible. To me its a much better set up and most of the reasons were stated above.
muggs
Re: ?treestands or hunt off the grond I would say about 99% of my bowhunting takes place out of a tree. I bought a cheap ground blind that I use to set up in areas that aren't good for a treestand (no good trees, no backcover, etc..) Both ways are good, but for shot quality and scent cover, treestands can't be beat.
Illinoisbowhunter
Re: ?treestands or hunt off the grond I have done both but I definitely use treestand 95% of the time. As the others have mentioned it puts ur scent up higher from the deer, alot easier to see greater distances, and most of the time u can pull of a better shot at a greater distance.
