horst
I posted earlier the northerns never spawned and started reabsorbing thier own eggs this year around here. The official explanation was it warmed up to fast and the water temps shot up past thier spawning temps before their eggs were ready to drop. Now Ive been hearing reports from at least 3 of the area lakes that the crappies are still full of eggs, seen a basket of them today a guy had out and sure enough, they havent even started spawning. The official explanation, the water temps havent been high enough yet for them to spawn One extreme to the other it seem like this year. While the crappies will eventually spawn Im told this crazy weather patterns sure screwed up the fishing around here this year.At this rate the catfish wont spawn till December LOL
SaskMan
Re: Bizzare year I've never heard of that before, likely b/c the cool spring temps and cold water lakes here keep that from happening. Too bad and a shame, that spawn is important in the survival of the species.
fisherguy
Re: Bizzare year That is a perfect illustration of why it is so important to obey limits, and release big fish. missing one spawn isn't really bad, but if the big fish get kept this summer, and you miss a year class it could get bad.
