Recommendation on the #1 bottle...Mountain Dew. And, for me, I prefer a larger bottle with a bigger opening. wink.gif

Tinks 69 is a great lure!

Re: Full Equipment arsenal for a beginner

man starting out i would get the best you can afford but also don't go crazy and try to buy everything at once. you will need depending on whether or not you have a long walk and ride a pack and then make sure you have a range finder and if your going to someone elses place they will have the lay of the land and you won't need a gps and also have a decent pair of binos. also good calls i like primos can and power buck and doe call. i can get by with just those two. make sure you have some good i like the cotton pull over shirts vs's the button up they are heavier and i don't need that. i also prefer bibs both uninsulated and insulated. i know up north you get colder than i do down here. a good pair of rubber boots both uninsulated and insulated. now you might be able to buy one pair and get by if you buy one with a small amount of thinsulate say 200 to 400 and then buy your others the 1000 i like the 1200 grains for those icy days.

then the list goes like this

extra socks and thick are a good idea

scent lok you can get the shell i have the hood and top and i have some other scent killer underwear like long johns you can get cheaper and they work

dress in layers so have a it form heavy to light and make sure you have both available because of whereyou are going to hunt. good gloves or i like glomets and i like the fingerless gloves as well as i can feel my release or trigger better. gloimets aremittens that the top flips over andyou have fingerless gloves.

use a good scent free soap and deoderant and shampoo and good clothes soap and i use the earth scent dryer sheets it helps to stop static cling and makes the clothes lose that people smell

make sure you have some bags to pack your clothes into so the outside smells don't get into your clothes and a big bag to pack them in. that hsould get you started and then you can do like we all did and started buying everythig we needed and what we didn't need as well lol

good luck and early i wouldn't worry about stuff like tinks or any other cover scents like that you can get earth scent spray to help you when your getitng into your stand or blind

So you dont want the deer to smell your pee but you'll let them smell your poop lol blush.gif

I don't think he would be able to get it in the regular bottle much less the one with the bigger opening. Better pinch those cheeks together fella! grin.gif

Re: Full Equipment arsenal for a beginner

I usually start the season carryin in tons of stuff, then each hunt i seem to weed out the things i don't need. By the end of the season, i got just a few things, and they all fit in my pocket, rather than a backpack. All you need is:

ammo

sharp knife

weapon

license

binoculars(not needed, but nice to have)

any kind of call

some kind of scent, if wanted

plenty of layers of nice warm clothes.

I would strongly reccomend buying one of those camo insulated hand muffs. in my opinion, they are the ONLY way to keep your hands warm. Second best is nice wool glo-mites(mittens, the fold over to be open fingered gloves)

I usually have extra shells, first aid kit, more clothes, and food in the truck. I never carry food to the stand anymore.

Re: Full Equipment arsenal for a beginner

I keep it pretty simple:

gun/bow

arrows/bullets

back pack

license

grunt/The Can

facemask, gloves, layer clothing

knife

flashlight

Scent Away

binoculars

compass/gps/map .. depending on the familiarity of the area

I also carry a chemlight, fire starter, and nylon cord

If extended trip, first aid kit, inclement weather gear

Re: Full Equipment arsenal for a beginner

KISS = keep it simple stupid smile.gif

I hope you guys don't think that I head out into the woods with some huge trunk of equipment. Most of my stuff easily fits into my backpack (which I hang next to me in the tree), my fannypack (no comments needed smirk.gif ), or my pockets. Sure, I might not use or need everything everytime but I've been glad to have it with me when I needed it. cool.gif

Re: Full Equipment arsenal for a beginner

Develop one hand made custom - mojo symbol, or good luck charm. Never wash your hunting jacket until the season is well over. Find a good luck ritual that works, and stay with it! Avoid expensive ammo and guns. You are well on your way to outdoor fun. And those .30-.30's are hard to beat for Deer... Also, maybe forget the gear and focus on the game. Where ya hunting, what are the regulations, can you scout it in the off season? Do you know anyone who has hunted the area?
