dg
I use to have one made out of layers of carpet. But chicken wire wrapped around two posts (with a plywood floor) works good when filled with rags. Throw a sheet of cardboard and maybe some foam on the target face with a dot to aim at. VermontHunter
Re: Target?? Need Ideas! For a cheap starter target just go and get a large cardboard box and fill it with lots of rags and duct tape it shut, and put a paper target of some kind on it and you are set to go real cheap and disposable taboot..... AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Target?? Need Ideas! Every now and then Dunham's sporting goods has them on sale. I picked up a Delta 4000 for $14.00 last year and it stops my arrows just fine. I built a stand for it out of PVC pipe. Probably $3.00 worth of material there and now I have a target for many many years of practicing. Lou
VermontHunter
Re: Target?? Need Ideas! [ QUOTE ] thanks for the advise! I'm probably gonna need like... a refridgerator box filled with rags to start me out just to make sure i can hit it lol. [/ QUOTE ] Ruby, if you've never handled a Bow before and you are going to be on your own with NO proshop or experienced shooter help,,,,,,I would definately invest in an armguard as to not bruise that tender blemish free fore-arm of yours.... I would highly reccomend getting some experienced help.......
PAbowhunter4life
Re: Target?? Need Ideas! I bought a Morrell Super Super target cover for $20 off of their website. Deer vitals on one side, 5 spots on the other. I then took a roll of shrink wrap from work and filled the bag with it. So for less than half the price of what they sell for in stores I have a Morrell Super Super bag target, plus, the shrink wrap stops my arrows from 10-40 yards moving at 280 fps. I know a few guys though who will go to feed stores or farms and ask for any extra burlap bags they may have laying around. They get whatever they can and stuff them with either shrink wrap or plastic bags you get from a grocery store. After that they'll draw spots or whatever on the bag and they're ready to shoot. buckee
Re: Target?? Need Ideas! I make used to make my own targets out of that blue styrofoam insulation. One 2" thick sheet makes you 2 good targets. I cut the sheet into 4 equal pieces, and then stick 2 of them back to back to make 2 - 4" targets. I used painters calking to stick them together since I always have some on hand. You can use duct tape or silicone, etc.. Paint or pin a target on it and your set to go. I like to have at least 4 separate circles to shoot at rather than just one. It will same your arrows once you start grouping them well. I trhink it is about $12 Canadian per sheet, so $6 per target is a good price.
too_pointer
Re: Target?? Need Ideas! I would go out and buy one, you can get them pretty well priced these days if you look around some. I used to take cardboard and layer them thick and band them together, they were a buger to pull arrows out of, and far from waterproof too_
Chrud
Re: Target?? Need Ideas! It is VERY easy to make a replica of "The Block" target. A guy could probably make one for about $20. Of course, I'd use the "dinosaur" bander and tighten it down a lot more than what the traditional Block targets are. But, I still use The Block Pro. VTbowman
Re: Target?? Need Ideas! Use an old pillow case full of old clothing, towels, etc. and just tie it closed. It will get ya something to shoot at thats easy to carry. Until you can go buy one you like. Burlap works 1000x better but not everyone has access to burlap sacks. ruttinbuc
Re: Target?? Need Ideas! Here is a field point target I made with a little work and very little expense. I made a simple 2x4 frame and closed it off with plywood. Put a hinged roof on the top and stuffed it with discarded shrink wrap and a whole lot of plastic grocery bags. I used a piece of that accordianed styrofoam insulation on top. For the cover I stapled on that black weed guard stuff they use for landscaping and some free burlap I got from the local nursery. I might have a total of $20 invested. Maybe! The best part is that I can pull out the arrows with 2 fingers. It has taken thousands of shots. All you need to do is refluff the plastic and replace the weed guard fabric once a year. I have since put 1x1 pieces of trimming around the top and sides to give it a finished look I have a huge styrofoam block I use for broadheads.
