dogdoc
I just got a few gateway right helical feathers---have a question for you. These feathers are advertised as water resistant. Do I need to add anything else to them to make them waterPROOF? thanks todd
Gator
Re: Feather shooters........ Todd, bohning (I Think) makes a powder that you can put on your feathers that will help them stay waterproof. I know Bass Pro has it, not sure of who else around here will though
hutchies
Re: Feather shooters........ Alot of people are fooled by thinking water resistant means waterproof.
VTbowman
Re: Feather shooters........ Doc- Use the same stuff people use on the whisker biscut. No-Sno I think its called... I have heard of the powder too but not sure how much I trust it or not. But then again I never used it either. I hear a bunch of guys using the No-Sno... Tominator
Re: Feather shooters........ I've got some spray on stuff I don't use anymore if you want it Todd, say the word. It seems to me it's some type of petroleum based stuff. It works OK, but I think you'll find there's really not much of a need to keep your fletch extremely dry. When they get wet, they'll lay down a bit, but usually fluff back up when they dry. But if you want that stuff let me know.

maddhunter
Re: Feather shooters........ When I shot feathers I used a silacone spray I got at Wal-Mart. It worked really good and my feathers never would stick down. I would just tap them on my hand every once in a while to nock off the water, if it was raining bad. I used it even on WATER-RISISTANT feathers just to be sure.
cjsportsman
Re: Feather shooters........ I use dry fly spray. Works very well. You can buy it in the fishing department at most sporting good stores.
too_pointer
Re: Feather shooters........ You certainly got some great advice in here. This is one reason I got away from feathers. Although, back when I shot feathers, there wasn't much out there to water-proof them LOL. too_
snapper
Re: Feather shooters........ I never put anything on my feathers and never had any probs. I remember the old days when we used to shoot at hay bales and you would sink 'em into the flecthings and it would screw them up...but shooting 3d targets and such...don't have any probs. Feathers are much more forgiving than plastic vanes...thats why I switched back to feathers, and again...I don't put anything on my feathers. Guest antlers21
Re: Feather shooters........ I shot feathers up until this year and I hunted in rain, and snow and the water never effected arrow flight at all. Sure my feathers layed down a bit when totally soaked but it still flew true into a 8 point buck at 25 yards. And after they dried out they came right back to normal again. I never waterproof my feathers and if I shoot them again I still probably wont. Just my two cents worth!

VtBowhunter
Re: Feather shooters........ You can never make feathers waterPROOF on resistant, but if your bow is properly tuned you can shoot wet feathers with as much accuracy as dry ones.
