JimT
Any roofers on this forum? If so your bigger men than me...lol. I started my side summer job a few weeks ago {property maintinance} and just got done one job. It took me four days to rip off seven layers of shingles on the peaked part {20'X30'}, recover it with plywood, reshingle it, and paint the flat part {probably 125'X75'} with that paint that has the aluminum flakes in it to reflect the sun. Thats some hard work. And to top it off I hate ladders. Lots of ladder work came with this job. Man, I am -sore-!!!!! I think I will take a tub now...lol......... NiteRunner
Re: Roofers My Dad works in construction and roofs quite a bit, it does take a toll. I've helped him roof a couple of houses (including ours) I kinda like it, but nothing that's too steep!
Tominator
Re: Roofers Only when I have to Jim. Nailing is the only fun part. Tear offs, and running squares up ladders is tough work. Seems it's always hot up there too.

dogdoc
Re: Roofers not me---i'm afraid of heights (unless in a deer stand with a harness). Around here 90% of the roofers are Mexicans---those are some really hard workin' guys! todd
Illinoisbowhunter
Re: Roofers My dads a Contractor, we do see quite a few roofs a year. It can be alot of hard work, especially on a scorching summer day when its even hotter up on the roof from all the radiation

MUDRUNNER
Re: Roofers You have my sympathy.I've done a few roofs and tearoffs are the worst.Me and my brother in law just finished putting cedar shake on a 10-12 pitch for their new house. HarvDog
Re: Roofers I couldn't do that job full-time. My neighbor was a roofer and helped me replace and reshingle the entire roof of my townhouse 7-8 years ago. Man! What a chore!!! I was exhausted. Jeramie
Re: Roofers Negative! I dont like roofing. Ive put on some metal roofs and that was enough for me. A couple of years ago I put a Standing Seam roof on my grandma and grandpa's new 2-story house. The roof was an 8/12 and just like a slide when you hit that standing seam panel. Scary stuff! I guarantee you watch your feet. Stepping on a cord is like stepping on ice......

HuntingInMaine
Re: Roofers Pete won't do a roof unless business is really, really, really slow! Make sure you've got good knee pads and a fast nail gun. (A hot tub for after work would be a good thing too!) I don't mind heights, but I HATE ladders. I was helping with a stain job and got up about ten rungs on this ladder and realized I could climb it, but would NOT work from it! Steven
Re: Roofers I did a roof on a skating rink in Kansas. Huge building! It took 4 other guys and me 3 weeks to tear off and reshingle because that summer it happened to be extremly hot (2001). 107 was the lowest daily high temp for a 6 week stretch. It got so hot that we couldn't work on it anymore after about 11a.m. because the shingles were getting too hot and disintegrating under our boots. I don't like roofing. horst
Re: Roofers Roofing used to be fun but itas taking a toll on my body.I been doing it for 17 or 18 yrs now and Im only 32, i started helpin dad when I was a kid.My knees are about shot, i have a huge knot in my right shoulder from hauling bundles up laddersI think it may be a bone spur or something.I have very limited feeling in my hands from running hammers, air guns, and potatoe forkswhile tearing off and Ive managed to wack one of my thumbs off.But other than that I guesse it still pays the bills
