Re: Good Hunting Boots

I have a pair of Rocky's Buckstalker 1000 gram thinsulate rubber boots I got at Gander Mountain and love them so far. I like them because they have zipper sides and it makes it easier to remove them. Shop around and see what fits the best and what fits your price range. IMHO Rocky makes a great boot for the money.

Re: Good Hunting Boots

My dad, brother, and I all have LaCrosse Burly 1200 and have had no problems with them at all. We've never had any problems with any LaCrosse products we've ever had. We've still got some plain rubber LaCrosse boots that are pushing 20 yrs old and have never had any holes in them and they are worn extensively.

My brother had a pair of Rocky Buckstalkers and they were terrible. Both boots got holes in them at the same place around a seam. They got sent back to Rocky and a new pair was sent to him. He had the same problem with the new pair and got the LaCrosse's like I have. We will never own another Rocky product.

I've got a pair of the Cabelas brand all leather, 1200 gram thinsulate, goretex boots and they're excellent. The only problem is deep snow or water, they're not real tall.

I just wish I could get away with wearing these all the time because they are so comfortable and look SO cool. cool.gif Probably wouldn't go over well with a suit up on the choir at church. grin.gif

Re: Good Hunting Boots

Match your footgear to the climate and terrain you will be hunting. If the average temperatures are well above freezing, I sure would not want to be wearing 1200 gram boots. Definately not if I had to travel any long distance to get to my spot.

Will you be sitting/standing on one spot for more than a few hours? Or will you be walking around the woods on drives?

I have more hunting boots than dress shoes. I have found Danner boots to be the best of the standard type boot. They hold up extremely well, are comfortable, are waterproof, and provide great support. They are rather pricey, but they last me longer than any other brand. I had a couple pairs of Rocky boots and I will never wear another. They leaked, squeeked, stretched, and were junk. Wolverine boots were ok.

I have a pair of Wolverine rubber boots for the wet rainy days, and they are holding up well. They have 1000 gram of Thinsulate, so they are good for those wet days in the 30's.

I have a pair of Cabela's Uninsulated Kletterlift Boots by Danner that are great for pre season scouting, early bow season, and spring turkey. I have a similar pair with 200 grams of insulation for bow season, or colder times with a lot of hiking.

My colder weather boots are 1000 gram Danner's that are great for hiking when its cold. They are warm for a standard boot. If I wear them too early, I sweat in them and thats not good.

For cold weather (around zero deg) I wear pack boots. I can still sit in a treestand and not get cold feet.
