MUDRUNNER
Rocky makes some pretty good hunting boots.I've had a few pairs and can't complain about any of them.I also have a pair of Irish Setter hunting boots that I bought from Bass Pro.I think they're made by Red Wing and are a great boot at a decent price. RangerClay
Re: Good Hunting Boots Where in NY are you going to be hunting and when?? Are you going to be watching treestands or driving deer? It does make a difference. I hunt both northern and southern zones and I have different boots for each. Ranger
Tominator
Re: Good Hunting Boots I've owned 2 pairs of boots in the last 18 years. Both were Rocky's. Great boot for the price and I've never experienced a leak either.

AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Good Hunting Boots I have a pair of Rocky's Buckstalker 1000 gram thinsulate rubber boots I got at Gander Mountain and love them so far. I like them because they have zipper sides and it makes it easier to remove them. Shop around and see what fits the best and what fits your price range. IMHO Rocky makes a great boot for the money. JimT
Re: Good Hunting Boots When treestand hunting I wear Field and Stream or Lacross knee high rubber boots. When still hunting I wear the Maine Hunting boot from L.L. Bean.
lil hunter
Re: Good Hunting Boots I have a pair of Redhead Bone Dry 1000's. They are defiently the best boot i've ever owned. Really warm, and comfortable. They're rubber, so no water is gonna get in unless you poke a hole in 'em(which would be very hard to do) and they are cheap. bearcat
Re: Good Hunting Boots I like the Rocky Bearclaws. They are the most comfortable pair of boots I have ever worn. They have 800 grams of thinsulate ultra insulation and Goretex. I also have a pair of Rocky Jasper Pac boots. These are real warm in cold weather. I have my Muck Boots and a pair of Rocky's (older version of the Bearclaw). But, you might want to consider Irish Setter also, never heard a complaint about them. Mach1
Re: Good Hunting Boots My dad, brother, and I all have LaCrosse Burly 1200 and have had no problems with them at all. We've never had any problems with any LaCrosse products we've ever had. We've still got some plain rubber LaCrosse boots that are pushing 20 yrs old and have never had any holes in them and they are worn extensively. My brother had a pair of Rocky Buckstalkers and they were terrible. Both boots got holes in them at the same place around a seam. They got sent back to Rocky and a new pair was sent to him. He had the same problem with the new pair and got the LaCrosse's like I have. We will never own another Rocky product.

My Rocky's have been all over, from Northern Quebec to West Virginia and then some. Sorry to hear about his misfortune.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Good Hunting Boots [ QUOTE ] Hey Guys I got the word today and I am finally going on my FIRST!!! HUNT this year ... whitetail in Upstate NY. Just wondering what brand or model are some good waterproof winter proof all around good boots. How is the cabelas brand? Thanks Rob. [/ QUOTE ] I've got a pair of the Cabelas brand all leather, 1200 gram thinsulate, goretex boots and they're excellent. The only problem is deep snow or water, they're not real tall. AJ
Re: Good Hunting Boots Match your footgear to the climate and terrain you will be hunting. If the average temperatures are well above freezing, I sure would not want to be wearing 1200 gram boots. Definately not if I had to travel any long distance to get to my spot. Will you be sitting/standing on one spot for more than a few hours? Or will you be walking around the woods on drives? I have more hunting boots than dress shoes. I have found Danner boots to be the best of the standard type boot. They hold up extremely well, are comfortable, are waterproof, and provide great support. They are rather pricey, but they last me longer than any other brand. I had a couple pairs of Rocky boots and I will never wear another. They leaked, squeeked, stretched, and were junk. Wolverine boots were ok. I have a pair of Wolverine rubber boots for the wet rainy days, and they are holding up well. They have 1000 gram of Thinsulate, so they are good for those wet days in the 30's. I have a pair of Cabela's Uninsulated Kletterlift Boots by Danner that are great for pre season scouting, early bow season, and spring turkey. I have a similar pair with 200 grams of insulation for bow season, or colder times with a lot of hiking. My colder weather boots are 1000 gram Danner's that are great for hiking when its cold. They are warm for a standard boot. If I wear them too early, I sweat in them and thats not good. For cold weather (around zero deg) I wear pack boots. I can still sit in a treestand and not get cold feet.
