spyderpancake
I shot my Marlin 917v a good bit today. I started out shooting paintballs at 50, then 100 yards, then decided to shoot some pennies at 50. That was too easy, so I turned them lenghtways. I nailed the first one I shot at. My buddy shot at and hit 2 next, and then my brother hit 4 out of 5 shots on one. That thing is crazy accurate! I don't know if all of them are that accurate, or if mine is an exceptionally good shooter, but i would recommend them to anyone looking for a .17. Here are a coupla pics. Sorry for the poor quality. In the first pic, the penny on the left is the one that i hit turned on edge, and the other one i hit in the middle, facing me. The second pic is of the one i hit sideways. That is a tiny target to hit! I could barely see it, but you can tell when you hit one, it goes flying!
archerjg
Re: Shot my .17 some today... That is some great shooting, congratulations on the rifle.. I have an 882SS Marlin in .22 Mag and it is pretty accurate as well. Archerjg
lil hunter
Re: Shot my .17 some today... them little guns are accurate aren't they. Last time i shot mine, there were 20+ mph winds and i still kept it under an inch at 100 yards. I was so proud.

spyderpancake
Re: Shot my .17 some today... Federal V-Shoks. My gun really doesn't seem to like one type of ammo above another, it shoots them all into the same little group, i don't have to change my scope when i switch brands. too_pointer
Re: Shot my .17 some today... That is some fine shooting ! I'll own one someday, I hope . spyderpancake
Re: Shot my .17 some today... They sell 'em every day for $169 at Wal-Mart. It is definitely the most accurate rifle you can get for the money. The only complaint I have is the trigger. It is not bad, just a little heavy. It was a little bit rough when i got it, but after dry-firing it several thousand times it has smoothed out. I want to get one of the rifle basix triggers for it. They are around $60, but I think it would be worth it to have a fully adjustible trigger. I will probably get one soon. Most people on RimfireCentral.com say that it drops their groups to under 1/2" at 100. Right now mine shoot consistently st just under 3/4". Not bad for a cheap rimfire! AJ
Re: Shot my .17 some today... [ QUOTE ] ...but after dry-firing it several thousand times it has smoothed out... [/ QUOTE ] Be sure you use a snap cap when dry firing a rimfire. You can create a burr at the edge of the chamber as the firing pin gets pounded against the steel. They make swaging tools to remove this burr. As long as you use a good snap cap you will not harm the barrel.

AJ
Re: Shot my .17 some today... [ QUOTE ] I am against it since it wouldnt kill the last groundhog I shot at. I did my part in hittin it.... [/ QUOTE ] Hittin it and hitting the vitals are very different things. The smaller the cartridge and the bigger the critter the more critical the shot placement is. Either of the .17 caliber rimfires will kill a groundhog very quickly and effectively in the proper hands.
