Got my 5th chipmunk of the year!

Recommended Posts

Alright folks. Went out for a woodchuck today with my bow, got nothing, but saw about every chipmunk that exists in the woods. So I went back home and switched from the bow to the pellet gun and went out. Sat down where I was woodchuck hunting and had a chipmunk walk up to me, but it came from my neighbors yard. Last week my neighbor was telling me about chipmunks that he wants to get rid of in his yard. So, while sitting there, I see this chipmunk come down from his yard and start moving towards me. He stood at 15 yards and I shot. Perfect headshot. He fell, squirmed a bit and then that was that. Hardly any blood and no exit wound.

Entered just infront of the eye. Yep. You guessed it, he was facing me:

He doesn't hunt. He knows that I hunt and that I shoot the little buggers. My neighbor is also my boss. I work with him in landscaping and stuff. He was telling me about the chipmunk problem, so I offered and he and his wife ok'ed it. So now I am popping chipmunks like there is no tomorrow on his place.

Birdseed and corn both are great for baiting them because while I am away during the day at school, they get comfortable in the bait zone. Then after school the lead starts flying. Then they forget and we do it all over again the next day.. lol

Well, there is one call that I have used before that has worked during the mating season. A mouse squeaker. The chipmunks do make noises that sound like the mouse squeaker a predator hunter uses. (The one that you can pinch or bite.) I guess it sounds like another male and a nearby one responds looking for a fight.
