Re: Are coyotes becoming more aggressive?

I have seen a lot of coyotes and even jumped some 10yds away but I think they are less likely to attach unless they have rabbies, defending pups or are cornerd.

Easy, in most of those states due to a lack of predator hunters that is what it takes to manage the population. If they wanted them wiped out completely there would be bounties again. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it should be totally wiped out.

I know guys who trap and shoot well over 100 coyotes over the course of the winter. This does not even dent the population where I live, that is why year round seasons exist and no bag limits exist. Like Fisherguy said, they play an important role in nature and wiping them out would be just another stupid thing man did in upsetting the balance of nature.

By the way, the more I read fisherguy's posts, the more I like him!!! grin.gif

Thanks Saskman, i just get frustrated when people have irrational fears of wolves, bears, cougars etc. and think we have the right to wipe them out. Sure there is a chance of attack, but a small one. Heck, i could get stomped by an angry and protective cow moose this year, but if i did, would people be screaming to exterminate moose? I doubt it. These animals need to be managed like any other as an integral part of nature.

Re: Are coyotes becoming more aggressive?

Yes, I agree that yotes have their place in the chain. But when it comes to the detriment of other animals, I'd say the yote is low on the list of animals that concern us. Deer is more important to this state than predators( economy and recreation). Since last deer season, I have found 3 deer carcasses, yote killed, on my land. Thats just on my land. I know they were yote killed , because they were healthy deer. Last deer season I saw ONLY 2 does and about 5 yotes!

My buddy shot 2 of 'em, rolled both, and they got up and RAN away! Hit 'em with a 25-06 too!

Tough dogs. In the southern zone of NY, we are overun with yotes here. There should be a 2 year , year round season to bring the yote pop back into check. With not many people hunting them, their population explodes. I am pretty hard pressed to see small game on my land. But about EVERY 100yds or so, I can show you coyote scat.

I think they are beautiful majestic animals, who are truely a trophy if you get one.

But the So.Zone of NYS is in trouble if they don't get the yote pop back into check.

I have seen NO fawns, rabbits and very few squirrels.

What did they go to Miami?

No...don't wipe out yotes, but drastically reduce their population for a year or 2. They'll recover.Yotes are extremely resilient.
