Squirrelhunter91
It depends on where you are hunting. If you are hunting in open country, then a decoy is a must. If you are in the woods, it is a matter of opinion. PM me and I'll send you links to some informative sites.
WaCoyote
Re: when coyote hunting should i use a decoy? I don't agree Squirrel. I shoot tons of yotes out west in open country and I have yet to kill one over a decoy. Calling brings them in and you blast them. I have a fawn decoy and a rabbit. I have never brought a yote in to either. I'm not saying the decoys scared them, I'm sure it's just a coincidence. But saying a decoy is a MUST is simply wrong. sureshot
Re: when coyote hunting should i use a decoy? I agree with WA 100% I call in and shoot aboru 100 every winter and only have decoyed a few, biggest thing when callign in open country like I do is call from the right location, get to a place you can see good and get there quietly and wihtout being seen[stay in low spots gettign there, never skyline]plus to get them inopen country be ready to try different things, this is the reason I do not use a electronic, I want to be able to talk to the coyote that is coming in according to what it is doing!with a good mouth call you can .if its sittign back I can see it and I can change up what I am doing, soemtimes a challenge call, others a wimper, others a female invitaion call depends on the circumstance and the time of year, I always hear how great deeks are but I have never needed them, learn to talk there launguage and you will get them in no matter what the place you are calling!! good luck!! jcwa
Re: when coyote hunting should i use a decoy? I also agree wacoyote. I hunted coyotes for 12 years before I ever tried a decoy. No you do not need a decoy, but it does help to keep the coyotes attention off of you, if you have to move for a shot.
Guest guess
Re: when coyote hunting should i use a decoy? I have killed lots both ways with and without! I sue a moving decoy! i have had good success with it! it takes then attention off of the shooter so you can take your time to shoot or get good footage! dogdoc
Re: when coyote hunting should i use a decoy? I made my own decoy. Just a small stuffed animal that the girls quit playing with. I tied a few light turkey feathers on it so the wind would blow the feathers for movement. I inserted an old carbon arrow in it and glued it to the arrow. Works great. todd
