VTbowman
Re: Top 5 When your actually out there or over all? Well.... -Dont go coughing or sick. -Dont drop things off stand since it really sucks to go down and get them and could scare off potential deer coming in. -Dont lick any broad heads.... Especially the blades... -Dont go sweaty or smelly. -Dont forget anything important like a bow, arrow, kinfe, rope tags, etc... Be prepared to get one... But be prepare to not as well... -Cover everything and dont move or squirm on stand. -Unwrap any packaging to food item and put them in zip locks, wrapper are noisy. Thats should get ya started.... need2hunt
Re: Top 5 [ QUOTE ] A new bow hunter wants to know What are the top 5 things not to do when bow hunting. [/ QUOTE ] 5. Get down out of your stand too early. 4. Not being ready for a shot once you've settled into your stand. 3. Hunt when the wind is blowing towards where you think the deer will come from. 2. Take a shot that you don't feel comfortable with. 1. Not wearing a safety belt when in a treestand
GWSmith
Re: Top 5 [ QUOTE ] A new bow hunter wants to know What are the top 5 things not to do when bow hunting. [/ QUOTE ] Dont practice before a hunt...you are so good you dont need to Dont get good rest the night before a hunt...you'll never be sleepy in the woods Dont carry toilet paper in the woods...you'll never need it Dont assume that having something to eat with you is needed...you'll never get hungry in the stand Dont bother taking a safety belt with you...nobody has ever fallen from a treestand and been seriously injured or become "Dead by Gravity" before. hutchies
Re: Top 5 5.Don't show up late or leave early when hunting. 4.Don't drop your arrow off the rest. 3.Precut all the limbs that maybe in your way befor season starts. 2.Don't take a shot you are not comfortable with. 1.DON'T TAKE A SHOT YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH. Did I mention Don't take a shot you are not comfortable with. The reason I say this over and over is because if you make a bad shot on a deer with a bow you may never find it. My buddy shot a 10 point last year and we searched forever and never found it. We found blood just no deer.
Straight Shooter
Re: Top 5 Don't sit in a squeaky/noisey stand. Don't go into the woods without knowing your equiptment is in perfect working order. Don't shoot your field tips, and screw on FIXED blades thinking it's ready to go. Pratice with them as well. Don't put all the pins on a 10 yard deer, thinking you'll hit it. I promise you'll MISS. Don't go into the woods with out lots of practice, practice, pratice. muggs
Re: Top 5 I can't really put this into a top five, so I'll just sum it up. Be completely prepared before the hunt. The more you do it, the more you'll figure out. What I mean is, hang your stands before you plan on hunting, know how to find your stand in pitch black. Cut shooting lanes, and like everyone else said, make sure you're carrying what you need. I'd limit it to, a drag, a gutting knife, a flashlite, your license, some rubber gloves, string and a pen (to attached your tag), a small saw (for the pelvic bone), a hew key set (for any in-field adjustments to your bow) and a rope to hoist your bow. Just keep it simply, and you'll learn as you go.

GWSmith
Re: Top 5 This is weird...I woke up this morning with this post on my mind and knew I had to add to the list one more thing! Never take one of the older style watches with you-- the newer digital ones with the alarm will never go off at the wrong time after you forgot that you had it set and couldnt remember how to change it. Hevishot, You'll be amazed at how they never seem to make any noise and suddenly they are right there!!!!!!

[/ QUOTE ] He ain't just whistlin' Dixie. Last year I had a doe appear out of nowhere within 10 yards of my stand on the first afternoon I was in the woods. Funny part was just 10 seconds earlier I was watching in the direction she came from........she busted me as I drew the bow.
