NiteRunner
I've seen the most coyotes ever this month, half a dozen or so. Worse is they're on our property. Then yesterday while out in the swimming pool I saw a deer, little later I see it take off. I look out again not 200 yards from our house is a coyote! It walked around they're for awhile then started to go to the back of the field. After my Dad got home he dug out some of his old traps and might set them soon. But not soon enough. While my Dad was digging around another coyote was out in the field. My Dad came and seen, then he left, and my sister tells me "Dads has a gun". Next I heard an animal in distress. A coon squaller actually. As I watched the coyote with binocs, It heard the squalling alright, put his head down and started trotting towards the sound. I snuck out to where my Dad was calling, As the coyote moved closer to the sound. Though it didn't come closer then 150 yards, it was pretty cool! Any tips on hunting them? Squirrelhunter91
Re: New to Coyotes On our property in upstate NY, we found 3 coyote killed deer over the winter. I wish NY had an all year season no bag limit on them, just for a few years atleast. Just so we could put a significant dent in the population so that the deer harvest numbers would go up during deer season. Never make eye contact with a yote because if you can see their eyes, they can see yours, plus this is a form of aggression. Learn to look with your eyes and not with your head. If a yote or anything is coming from behind you, the first reaction would be to turn your head for a better look, learn to get the figure in your periphial (sp?) view. If using hand calls, put feeling into the call. Control the amount of air passing over the reed, but don't move your hands much while calling, it is very noticeable. [/ QUOTE ] How do you come up with these types of answers. Have fun is the most important part. Keep the wind in your face, or a cross wind from right to left or left to right. Watch for coyotes tring to circle down wind. Use tree's or bushes to break up your outline, Wear full camo and use a cover sent. Keep movement to a minimum and walk into an area as quietly as you can (do not drive in). bark with your voice to stop them for a shot when they are in range. The first 3 hours of dawn and the last 2 hours before sundown is the best time to hunt them during the day. Using a coon squaller may be the ticket, some areas coyotes may have been called to alot with rabbit distress calls.

Besides reading about it and experiencing it, are to different things. I've had coyotes within 8 to 10 feet from me looking strait at me and never knew what I was. And Im sure they could see my eyes. NiteRunner
Re: New to Coyotes [ QUOTE ] My advise is to not shoot one!! It's to contagous. Next thing you know all your time and money will be gone. Wearing camo to bed, irritating family and neighbors when your trying to figure out anew mouth call. Up all ours of the night workoing at the loading bench, etc.... The ailments go on and on. Just warning you, very contagous. No cure. Have a blast and be safe!!
