I like using a back tension for target, but i just can't get it, i can't seem to pull or squeeze with my back, through my shoulder down my arm. I use my back so i think and nothing moves, so i rotate the release to fire it, any help would be appreciated. What am i doing wrong?

The biggest thing you have to remember when using back tension is to relaxe. If you are tense and pulling to hard you will pull the limbs off the bow before you will get the propper rotation to execute the release. Your hand, fore arm and should muscles should all be relaxed.

Draw the bow using your back muscles (pre-load them). Make sure when at full draw you are getting your elbow high and back so that it does not abosorb any of the rotaiton. Relax your entire body while you are amiming and just pull slightly with the muscle between your shoulder blales.

If the release does not go off in about 5-6 seconds do not contiue to pull harder to get it to go. Let Down and start over. If you continue to have problems getting the relaes to go adjust the release to "lghter".

I just recently go into the habbit f trying to force the shot by pulling harder and it just does not work. I have adjusted my release to very lite but If I try to pull hard with to much should and to much arm I can not get the release to go. If I relaxe and just aim and let everything happen the shot goes very quickly.

The harder you pul the more tense your muscles are and you will not get the propper rotation required.

Re: Any back tension users out there?

proper use of BT isnt a mystery.. the problem arises when a person tries it on there own without the help of a shooter that is shooting with BT..so you must go through the pains of learning on your own... like i did.. wink.gif

i use BT for indoor target and 3d competition , but i do not use it for hunting...i find that a slow trigger squeeze works for me while hunting.. plus i cant let down while deer hunting and tell the deer to wait.. grin.gif

there are so many factors that it isnt funny for shooting BT.. first off what type of release do you have ? a true BT release or a thumb trigger or other ?

are you a push / puller ?

or just a puller ?

are you shooting with proper shooting form ?

did you know that where your draw elbow is can make it easier to utilize BT ?

do you know that how you draw the bow sets the proper muscles in postion to allow you to use BT easier ?

lets get a few more details and see if we can help you out some.. i iwill post some pics to try to help..

this is a form pic of me at full draw using BT ..

[image]155tony_3.jpg[/image]

as you can see my draw elbow is much higher than my arrow .. this allows me to use my shoulder as a pivot point to allow just my back muscles to tense up and allow the release to fire...

the other thing is to have a relaxed hand .. the key is to get that index finger to relax..

i am using a tru-ball ultra 4, i think i have found my problem, after i pull back to full draw, i am putting full pressure on the thumb knob which was not allowing the release to fire, once i adjusted the half moon to where i liked it, and once back at full draw with my thumb just resting on the thumb knob, i could finally use the release with conficense and success.

When you are at full draw, visualize holding an egg between the shoulder blades. Try blind bale or taking off the sight at close range and at full draw, try holding the egg until the bow goes off. Don't think how the release will be tripped, don't think about the bow going off, or the muscles being used. Just simulate holding the egg until the bow goes off. Trust it and be patient. It's okay to let down and do over.

Also, make sure your draw length is correct. Many folks are overdrawn. If you aren't sure, try shortening the draw a 1/4" at a time until you feel like it's too short and then back off in 1/8" until you find the sweet-spot.
