Squirrelhunter91
I have a reservoir behind my house where NYS DEC just stocked it with 1500 trout. What would be a good bait or lure for trout? Will worms work or is there a specific type of worms?

Alisha
Re: Good trout bait I've gone trout fishing for as long as I can remember.... Dad and I have always used night crawlers (blown up with a syringe), power bait (orange or chartreuse work best), colored marshmallows with a mealworm, and so on. Then there's always the rooster tails, panther martins, etc,. Anyway...... good luck and be sure to post pics if you catch anything!
Guest andymansavage
Re: Good trout bait Half of a nightcrawler with a mini-marshmallow at eye of hook(#8), 18 inches of 4 pound leader. swivel. full clear bubble with a split shot behind it. Chartruse powerbait is best man-made bait. Kastmasters, Jake's spin-a-lure, daredevil, krocodile, all in 1/4 oz. are best reservoir lures. try gold or orange patterns. Newarcher
Re: Good trout bait Blown up with a syringe? Splain please!?! Never heard of that and just where do you put the syringe to blow up the nightcrawler? New
coles
Re: Good trout bait you just stick the syringe in the worm and inject the air to make it float up off the bottom. i have never done it but there is alot of guys around here that do it. all we have to catch around here is trout. so if the res. is big enough to put a boat in troll real slow with a small black and gold rapala. it works like a dream up here. Alisha
Re: Good trout bait Newarcher - coles is exactly right. We've caught LOTS of nice sized trout that way. I usually pinch off the tail of a night crawler (1-2 inches), run the hook through the pinched off end, double it over on the hook once or twice, poke the syringe into the middle part of the worm and shoot enough air into it for the thing to float in the water. Be careful not to put too much air into it though or it'll bust the worm and not float. After shooting the worm with air, dip him in the water to see if he actually floats, but if not, poke another hole in him, give him another small shot of air and test it again before tossing him out in the lake. Anymore questions - feel free to ask.
deershed
Re: Good trout bait Try pumping some vanilla extract in the night crawler. It still floats and the smell of the vanilla helps the fish zero in on it.
Squirrelhunter91
Re: Good trout bait I bought a Rapala lure. It is in a blue box that says F-3 on it. On the back it says brown trout. It looks like a small brown trout. Will this work?
