Tominator
Can you sprain a fingertip? I've been doing fence work for the last 3 days (split rail, with wire behind), and last night I noticed my left index fingertip is pretty sore. No puncture wound that I can see, don't remember smashing it, or cutting it on the wire, and no, I didn't pick my nose too hard, I use my right hand for that. It feels like a puncture wound, but there's no evidence of a puncture. Weird.
Jeramie
Re: Can You? You may have bruised it?! That would be my guess. Using that tip over and over again would probably bruise the tip.....
HarvDog
Re: Can You? I think you can but it would be pretty rare! Maybe it just hasn't been worked it that way very hard so the muscles are sore. Not sure...I ain't no doctor.
Palssonater
Re: Can You? you mean it happened at work on the computer and you should get some days off and probably a settlement? ha ha ha. Sounds like a bruise.
AaronS
Re: Can You? Were you pressing something hard with it repeatedly? The one time I tried (unsuccessfully) to learn to play guitar my fingertips hurt like heck for a while. If not, my vote goes to a small splinter. christsavedme
Re: Can You? I was thinking along the lines of a really small splinter...you know one of those that will fester up in about a week and you never knew it was there except for the pain.....then again you may have just bruised it! Turkeygirl
Re: Can You? It is very possible. Jamming your finger on a basketball basically sprains the ligaments/tendons in there because it forces the joint in a way it shouldn't be. You probably just overused your finger and starined it a little bit. You can do a buddy tape by taping it to the other finger or do a tape job by tearing small pieces of tape and making an X and put where the X crosses over the joint of your finger tip then just tape the ends. That may help it feel a little better or at least support it but what do I know, I'm only an athletic training minor, lol. I hope it is feeling better! Newarcher
Re: Can You? Nope, I know what you got...I bet. I believe that you probably busted a blood vessle down in there somewhere. I have done it from time to time and it is pretty painful....sharp pain that does, in fact, feel like a puncture. I get them from time to time and it really hurts---usually in the bend of a finger. It will go away. New

wtnhunt
Re: Can You? Probably strained something Chris. Soreness after a lot of fencing is pretty normal.
Tominator
Re: Can You? Must have bruised it. The soreness is still there, but it's not festering or anything like that. That was my real fear because I know I'm due for a tetanus shot. I don't think I've ever bruised a finger tip before, short of bashing it on or with something. First time for everything I guess. Thanks for the suggestions folks.

wtnhunt
Re: Can You? Another thing if you have been doing a lot of weeding by hand in the garden lately, and then the fencing, you may have something like tendonitis in your finger. If it is bothering you try some naproxen(aleve).

Still hurts, but it's not festering or swelling so I'm not concerned anymore. I was afraid of infection, and I didn't want the hassle of going down to the doctor to get a tetanus with my wife out of town.
