Turkeygirl
Anyone hunting fall turkeys in NY? Anyone know how the population is? I have not seen any turkeys at all while bowhunting this week. They are not where they usualy are but I have an idea where they might be so when I get gome later, I'm going to go set up in the area where I think they might be and hope to at least hear or see them(to get one would be awesome). I did not get a turkey last fall or this spring so this fall I am ending my one year turkeyless streak! Good luck to everyone else!
western NY bowhunter
Re: NY fall turkeys Last night while bowhunting I heard several birds fly up to roost. This morning I was able to sneak right in between them and set up. The 11-87 spoke and I had a nice adult hen by 7:30. I couldn't believe it...they are the first turkeys that I've seen around in a while (I really haven't been out looking for them). Overall, I'd definately say that the pop. in my area in NE Steuben County has been down for the past several years. The only explanation that I have is that its probably due to the poor hatches we've had over the past few years. There are still birds around but you don't see too many really big flocks and they sure are harder to find than they used to be. The best bet around here is to get permission to hunt some of the local finger lakes vineyards...they're always loaded with turkeys in the fall. Good luck. Rayzorp
Re: NY fall turkeys Went scouting on in-laws property, Roxbury in Delaware county,, definitely heard them, but by noon they were quiet. All then rain must have helped. Hopefully I'll get a weekend to myself and track one down,,,
