Bad day at work.....

Man this morning was flying along. Things were good. I went and picked out my new specks and then took the wife to eat some chicken. I was mighty happy.....

I came back to a hornest nest. We had to make some radical changes to a building in Little Rock. I had to detail some portal frames, a new column, and some second floor beams for this job inorder for them to clear their commercial glass. I have worked the majority of the week on these.

I missed one dang dimension and it set off an explosion. My boss first off thinks he does no wrong so he starts ripping me a new one, then to choke my mess up, and then the boss wants to play guess what im thinking. I cut two beams 1" to short and we had to drill a few new holes in the base plates. A few shims later things are ok but its been a fire in my pants since about 12:30.

My lovely wife wants me to help her clean debri in the yard (from construction) but im at the end of my string. After countless phone calls, my boss climbing my rear, and the mistakes I made (which are uncharacteristic for me), im spent. I could literally go throw up right now.....

I need my bible, some cold water, homemade ice cream, and total silence for about 2-hours........

Re: Bad day at work.....

I feel your pain man! My whole week has been a total disaster at work. Constantly fixing other peoples mess ups on my machine! The guy I have been following all week has been in printing for over 25 years, and he is totally screwing up my machine!

I had almost as much down time, as I did runtime this week! I couldn't take it anymore, and let off some steam in my final report for the week! I guess I just seem to get alot more work done when I'm the only one on the machine in a day. The machine is a dinasoaur, but it will put out good work, if you treat it good! Just venting...sorry.

Well, home equity.......:Dwink.gif

I would say that if the boss is that much of a jerk----oh yes he is-----you need to walk. Go find another job.

I have managed people and yes, they have disappointed me. However, never have I raised my voice to them...and never would I. If there was a mistake that was an isolated incident, I help them fix it with a laugh and a chuckle. If it is a chronic thing, I sit them down and talk with them to see what is going on. Perhaps they took out a home equity loan thinking it would fix all their financial woes and couldn't handle the added stress of knowing their home was now on the line because of previous financial decision making laugh.gifwink.gif. Really, they could have some problems at home. In one case, they were having problems. I gave them some extra time off to deal with the problems--off the record time--and I retained a very valuable employee who will now walk on water for me....or at least try.

Bottom line, there is no reason a boss should ever yell at an employee or mistreat them. Nor should you accept it.

I once had a boss that made the mistake of yelling at me in a meeting. I am a good employee and I know it--he knew it to. I got up, casually walked over to him, bent down in his ear, and whispered in a monotone voice "Jim, I am a good employee--you know that and I know that. I am not sure what the issue is and why you just yelled at me for no reason. Even if there was a reason, it is uncalled for. Now, if you ever yell at me again--in a meeting or not--I am going to put my fist through the back of your head as my last official act. In order not to embarrass you in front of your peers, simply nod your head if we understand each other". He turned ghost white pale and simply nodded his head. Never had another problem and I went on like nothing ever happened after that. However, I had a fairly unique situation with that boss--normally, that would get you fired....that and I am 6'3" 185.

Re: Bad day at work.....

Things are better gang! Thanks for the words.

My assistant decided to accept another offer. He left a week early so now Im holding ALL the cards. Its nice but going to be crazy busy. Im not sure if my boss's attitude changed or if he's afraid of losing me now. Whatever the case he has been as nice as possible.

My assistant wrote them a letter and gave it to them before he left. It included that he was leaving partially because of their attitude. It was like swallowing a handful of gravel to them but It may have done some good.

Anyway.... Time will tell, right now its working out.

Re: Bad day at work.....

Sounds like just one of those days. They happen every now and then. If they happen too often, there is a problem.

Glad things worked out for ya though. In all those movies, when the little guy stands up to the big guy and then gets rewarded, I wonder if that would ever be worth it? grin.gif
