muggs
I've been thinking about taking up bowfishing, seeing how I live 1/2 from a nice river, sticking carp seems like a fun way to pass some time. I'm a little hesitent about shooting an arrow with something tied to it. I've heard that arrow "snap back" can be a problem and potentially deadly. So how do you prevent this? Tominator
Re: bowfishing ? LOL--Unless you're using 1/2" braided nylon, that arrow won't snap back. Now the line is another story, and yes, I've had line snap across my hand while shooting carp up at Kellys Island. OOOOchie! Probably the most important thing to remember while bowfishing is to keep your line on the OUTSIDE of your bow hand, and you won't have any trouble. It's probably a bit too late to get the spawning carp in the rivers Eric, but I haven't done that in a long time. When we go to Kellys, I'll show you where my brother and I use to hammer them. What a blast.
Guest Squirrelbuster
Re: bowfishing ? To prevent a snap back you attach the line to the arrow using an AMS Safety Slide system. When you buy them with the arrows or seperate, directions are included, so it shouldn't be that hard to figure out how to put it on. Also, the only problem I have had with the line snapping back was my fault. I didn't realize the line was wrapped around my reel, and when I shot, the arrow snapped off the 80# line and went flying, but the line whipped my hand and left a bruise, but it was the only time that has happened and it never happened again. So as long as you check the line often, there should be no problems. So far that is the only accident I have had, and I have shot quite a few times since I started bowfishing this year.
