Turkeygirl
Just wondering how many of you get North American Whitetail magazine and saw the article on the record buck from PA? Michael Waddell went to see him. It is an awesome but the think that struck me was the shot the guy made on this buck. He shot him with a crossbow right below the white throat patch. I'm glad he got a nice trophy but still, that is not a very good shot and the deer didn't die right away. Maybe his sights were off or deer fever got him but I was slightly disturbed that someone might make a shot like that. I'm sorry if I offend anyone, I'm not trying to and sure I have made some not so great shots but just wondering what anyone else might think..... SaskMan
Re: PA buck in NAW He recovered it didn't he?? I'd say alot of deer get lost after bad shots on good opportunities. I shot a buck on my wall in the throat patch, it is all I could see except for the antlers in the thick brush. Gun yes, but he got him so
wtnhunt
Re: PA buck in NAW I would probably take a neck shot with the gun if all the conditions were right. Have only shot one in the neck before and he went out like a light.
horst
Re: PA buck in NAW I shot one in the same spot with my bow two years ago.I crawled up on him and it was the only shot he offered me when he stood up.The distance between us was less then 5 yrds, it was wide open plowed fields all the way around us and he had to go almost 1/2 mile before getting into any sort of cover that i would lose him in.My arrow went lengthways through the deer and took out everything from his lungs back. Even with that close of shot, that good of penetration, and that long of field of view to see him go down I wouldnt recomend that shot, escpecially if you were hunting in any type of cover that a deer might be able to hide in. There was no exit hole, and the entrance hole was so far forward that the bloodtrail was more or less non existant. He managed to make it within 100 yrds of the thick cover after the shot before tipping over.Unless you happen to hit the heart the best your gonna get is a one lung hit and a lotta guts.Still lethal but they can go a long ways afterwards. Ive seen deer shot in the hindquarter where that big arteries cut that have died within 10 or 12 yrds of where they were standing as well.It still dont neccassarily make it a good shot choice just because the deer was recovered. deershed
Re: PA buck in NAW Is this the deer your talking about? You can see the entrance hole. I shot a 8pt. one year with the bow from the ground a little lower then his shot with my deer angling towards me.My deer only went 30yds. and dropped. LifeNRA
Re: PA buck in NAW There was a lot of talk about this deer in HuntingPA.com! I never did find out what happened, but a lot say it was poached. Is there a web site that this could be read on? I would really like to know more about this deer!
