WGumz
Went to the local gun show today looking for a 22. Anyway, came home with a used 10-22 Ruger, laminate stock, and a new savage .17 HMR. Heard quite abit about the .17 HMR and had to get one for plinking around. Came out of there under 300.00 today and am quite pleased. Can't wait to pick them both up tomorrow. I will be needing a scope for the Savage. I don't want anything too expensive. Any suggestions? Kind of thinking a Bushnell. Not too sure. Also, what have you heard about the .17, anybody have one and what you think about it. What is the range of the .17. Was hearing 100 to 150 yards. I saw an episode a while back on OLN where a guy, can't remember who it was, was shooting prairie dogs with it. I remember him saying that it was a flat shooting rifle and quick. Let me know what you think. Wade
lil hunter
Re: Good Day at the local gun show... I got a savage 17hmr with the wood stock, and heavy barrel(model is 93R17 GV) It is topped with a bushnell trophy 3-9x40 scope. So far, it's excellent. Easy 1" groups at 100 yards, off a bench with shootin bags. I haven't killed anything yet, other than paper, but it is super accurate. I think the farthest i've shot on paper is 100, but i may have gone 125 the first time shootin, i can't remember. I know it could shoot past 100 if i wanted to. Have fun with it. Guest Colorado Bob
Re: Good Day at the local gun show... I've got a heavy barrel Savage in 17HMR. I put a 3x9 Bushnell on it. Super parairie dag gun. I saw Cabela's had the same scope on sale this month. Bushnell Pronghorn--around $30. CB
WGumz
Re: Good Day at the local gun show... LilHunter or CB, That is the same gun, wood stock and heavy barrel. What type of rings you have for the scope. I was told that I may need higher rings if I would go with a 3x9x40 scope. I was planning on the Bushnell, but am curious about what rings will be needed. lil hunter
Re: Good Day at the local gun show... i think my rings are medium height. There is just enough clearance to put the lens covers on. Medium or the high ones will work fine. I'm not sure about the lowest ones.

WGumz
Re: Good Day at the local gun show... PA and LilHunter, thanks for the info. Hopefully going later this week and getting the scope. Just picked up both today. That .17 is a fast one. I will enjoy shooting it. Can't wait to get the scope and put it all together.
