Guest bigbuckmiddaugh
things you've seen the woods that make hunting great, AND make you nervous! There has got to be some great stories! Fox's chasing rabbits, birds, turkey! That was cool! I did see a coyote or wolf fly past me, couple weeks ago when i was sitting on the ground! About 20 yds, and it was hauling the mail too! Then i was told there was a cougar on that big piece of land i hunt too. One guy heard it out there one night, he said it growled and it was spine tingling!! He said" it was no little putty cat"! I seen all kinds of animals out hunting, part of the hunt. I think it's cool! Seen a possum the other day, walking like it had a corn cob up its butt! lmao Had skunks right underneath my stand, porcipine's, Those raccoones are mean! I was sitting on ground, that thing seen me move, it was about 4 feet away, lol. then starting hissing, growling, then he charged at me! So i put my head down and charged back! lol J/k It's great to see all the animals! OH, i had a bear beside me once too! He didn't stick around long. Want nature, come with me,lol! Had birds land on me, had a hawk or owl fly right in front of my face, i guess he wanted to land there! I pee'd a little! Seen a lot of falling star's in the morning, before shooting light! Swear to god, i seen UFO one night too! Then that was on the news!!! Look at sky one morning, all of sudden WHAM, the whole sky lit up, not a little, the whole sky! That was freaky, then i goofed up on a huge buck that morning! I always think of that sky lighting up!

Bow Hunter Derek
Re: Things your seen in woods... The coolest (scariest actually) thing I had happen was while turkey hunting in the Everglades last spring. I had a 10 to 11 foot gator come after me. I litterally walked to within 5 feet of him (not intentionally of course). He spun and took a swipe at me. Man, I tell you, I did not know my 230 pound out of shape body could move that fast! Fortunately, all he did was spin and lunge. I'm sure he could have chased me down. I needed new underwear that morning. Same trip, I also had a 30 yard face to face meeting with a panther. Pretty cool. Again, fortunately he had other things on his mind than eating my fat butt. Nothing exciting like that ever happens in Indiana. c_lou
Re: Things your seen in woods... The funniest thing I have ever seen in the woods happened last night. I was watching a big fat red squirrel being chased by a grey squirrel. The red had a corn cob and the grey was bound and determined to get it away from him. The red would zig-zag everywhich way trying to out manuver the grey. Also had a red squirrel climb up the backside of the tree I was in. I looked over and there he was. He jumped out of the tree as fast as he could when I looked at him. I near soiled myself laughing.

kyhunter
Re: Things your seen in woods... A couple of things that come to mind that i have seen that makes hunting great.I have had Deer bed down a few yards behind me in a ground blind.Wild Turkeys land in a tree beside of me to Roost. It definetly makes me feel that i am undetectable while Hunting. I would have to change the topic a little though and say ,What makes my Hunting the Best,is the things that i dont see in the woods, like my work place ,Automobile traffic and above all,the Noise. kyhunter
tedicast
Re: Things your seen in woods... Earlier this archery season I was sitting in my ladder stand, and i had been watching a chipmunk going back and forth in front of me. I must have zoned out a minute, because the next thing I know, something is falling out of the tree in front of me. The "something" falling was a hawk, swooping down and grabbing the chipmunk. Guess I wasn't the only one watching the little guy scurry around. Scared the bejeezus out of me at first though.
Nosdog2
Re: Things your seen in woods... One time I was on my way to my stand in the early morning. Had a lot of cloud cover and it was pitch black out, I mean no moon, nothing. I am very familiar with the woods and I was walking down the field edge to my entrance point in the woods. Well I am beeboppin down through and I must have step near or on a phesant and it flew straight up my front and past my face knocking off my hat and scarring the ever living stuff out of. I think the coolest thing I saw was while hunting bear in Maine, one was a Pine Martin (cool) and the other was a snowshoe rabbit. I never relized they were that big, sounded like big foot coming through the woods.
