johnf
I've narrowed it down to these 3 rifles. They are all within $20 of each other, so price is not really an option. I'm leaning toward the henery just because it looks better built on the picture. I've never seen any of them in person. Does anyone have any experience with the Henry? johnf
Re: youth 22\'s I saw a Braztec rifle this weekend that was a little bigger than the other three, but came with a 410 barel for about $20 less then the other guns. My first reaction was to get it because the kids could use the 410 barrel to deer hunt with. How effective is the 410 when used with slugs for deer at less than 50 yards? How would the recoil compare to a comperatble sized gun in 223 or 22-250? I'm talking about guns in the 4 to 5 pound range.
gitcha_some
Re: youth 22\'s well i dunno but here in maryland you cant use anything lower than a 20 ga. for deer hunting so you might want to check on that in your state
johnf
Re: youth 22\'s Any centerfire cartrige is legal in AR. The only restrictions on the 410 is that it has to be a slug. I would probibly rather go ahead and get just a 22 and get a youth deer rifle later. I was just a little interested in the viability of the 410 as a deer gun. That one gets my vote. [ QUOTE ] I was just a little interested in the viability of the 410 as a deer gun. [/ QUOTE ] Not much. Although it will kill a deer under the right conditions, so will a .22 lr. That does not make it a good choice. Definately not for an inexperienced shooter. Personally, I would set the minimum at a .243 Win. If it has too much recoil for them, they are not big enough to shoot deer. Plain and simple.
