Sam16
Well i'm 18 years old and next fall i will be going to the University of Illinois in Champaign. The problem is, i dont see myself getting much time in a treestand this fall. I have four years of limited hunting in front of me, which really has me pretty upset. I am going to try and find some hunting land in Champaign to make things easier, but even still i'd have to fit hunting in between trying not to fail out of college and frat parties. First of all, does anyone know of any hunting grounds in Champaign county? Second of all, how did u guys cope with limited hunting during four years... (or five).. of college? Thanks in advance for all your consolement, haha. Give me some pointers!
AaronS
Re: I\'m bummin\'... [ QUOTE ] Second of all, how did u guys cope with limited hunting during four years [/ QUOTE ] I drank.....a lot. Just kidding. For starters, it will be worth it in the end. I'm sure you've heard that before and will hear it again. Secondly, I didn't have frat parties to worry about, and even if I did, hunting was a higher priority for me. How far do you live from campus. I lived 3.5 hours from campus when I went to Purdue, and made it home once every 3 to 4 weeks to hunt. It wasn't near as much as I was accustomed to, but it had to do. I never missed an opening weekend for anything. Another thing that helps is to find/make friends that also enjoy hunting. I found one that is still a great friend that lived only an hour from campus. After meeting him I was able to increase my time in the woods.

I met some fulfilling my Phys Ed requirement in Archery Class.... BTW, The ones that hunt will be the ones using their compounds, while everyone else is shooting the schools 15# draw recurves.... buckbuster11
Re: I\'m bummin\'... I took the smart route and went to a college 10 minutes from where I grew up. Hunting time was not a problem.
Rhino
Re: I\'m bummin\'... Actually I had more time to hunt in college than I did in high school or after college while I was still working an 8 to 5 job. I just scheduled all my classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the morning. My Tuesday and Thursday classes were scheduled to be in the afternoon. That gave me two 24 hour periods between classes during the week and I had Friday afternoon through the weekend too.
Smitteken
Re: I\'m bummin\'... Stick in there. I dealt with it for 4 years. I am looking so forward to this season because it will be the first that I won't be in school. I still hunted here and there, but i did sacrafice a lot of parties. But i don't regret it at all. I lived about an hour from home so it wasn't all that bad.
wvbowhunter
Re: I\'m bummin\'... My son goes to college and plays football.....he gets very little time to hunt also but the big picture is he is getting a education and hopefully get him in a job that he will enjoy and not have to struggle like alot of us do....this time will pass by and he will have plenty of time to hunt, football and classes is a full time job in itself keeps him very busy going to classes weight lifting..meetings...practice etc..etc., he still managed to kill 3 last season late season hunting one with a antlerless tag a doe..one muzzleloader doe...one with a bow spike, so all in all he done well with his season cut very short....good luck with college and hopefully you get tree stand time as well.
