Is it a good clean buring powder? Do it leave much in your barreel?

Triple "777" burns just as clean as Pyrodex RS without the Sulphur smell. I always swab out the barrel after each shot when sighting in by using a patch wetted with Rubbing Alcohol followed by two dry cleaning patches.

For me, the loose powder is way better. When I used pellets, it was always "pop, BOOM" but with the loose powder its"BOOM" It seems to be more accurate too. I'm shooting the FFG.

I've never had the pop boom thing happen with the pellets. But then again I'm using the hottest primer available(Federal) which might make a difference.

I might be able to get better groups with loose powder. But with 1.5-2" groups at 100 yards, I'll take the pellet's conveince over any marginal gain in accuracy.

Re: Triple 7 Powder or Pellets?

I am not a good source for comparison since I have only used the Pyrodex 50 grain pellets (2 for 100g of charge). I am planning on trying 3 pellets this year with either a 240 0r 300 grain sabot. I am getting 2 to 3 inch groups with mine at 100 yards which I know can get better but most of my shots are under that so it fine for hunting IMO.

I have never had a hesitation and I am still using the cheapo #11 cap on the factory nipple that came with my Remington 700ML.

Never once a mis-fire or slow burn.

Am I just lucky, weird, or both...??? crazy.gifsmirk.gifgrin.gif LOL

Re: Triple 7 Powder or Pellets?

Heck, I've shot #11 caps for years. Never a misfire as long as I've kept my powder dry. My personal opinion is that the 209 primer thing is a bunch of crap. I'm sure there are those that will disagree. But, as long as my powder is dry and I've made sure my nipple is clean and clear during the offseason then there is no problem. I had a problem one year when I didn't clean my muzzleloader from the year before and the nipple got clogged. I did see something on the prbullet.com website about the 209 primers providing extra spark and creating extra soot I believe. Check out the site. Take care, Greg

Re: Triple 7 Powder or Pellets?

For me being a beginner in muzzleloading I went with the 777 pellets for ease of loading and cleaning. Do I really have to clean the barrel after every shot when sighting in or is that just a wise tail. Im shooting a CVA Optima Pro 50. cal with 150 grains of 777 pushing a 240gr hornaday XTP mag. Its topped of with a Simmons Pro Hunter 3x9x40. I get about 2.5 in groups at 100 yrds

Triple Se7en, thanks for your imput, ive only had this cva for about 2 months and this is my first muzzleloader. When I was talking about the ease of cleaning i was refering to how easy 777 cleans over what ive seen with other powders. And it sounds like I do need to clean over cple shots and yes ive noticed the crud ring
