Awesome finish in Daytona.

I stayed awake for the whole thing. Ate a good meal at 7pm waiting for the rain delay.

First off, I have to applaud Mr. Tony Sterwart. He raced his butt off. He came back throughout the race and kept his distance between the drivers.

Second, I'm proud of Dale Jr. Like Sterwart, Dale Jr to ran is butt off. HE showed great patience and drove a great race car all night.

But I was really hoping to see Rusty Wallace or Mark Martin to win this race. It's their last time to go around Daytona's fine race track. I hate to see Martin's car being pinned up to the wall.

Great Race!!!

Finally after that long delay!! Tony had the best car period. His 4 wide outside pass was awsome! Jimmie finished sixth. He should have just stayed in third and tried to pass with McMurry

I taped some of it. Went to bed, enough of that crap! grin.gif

Stewart was very impressive. A very dominating car out front. I'd like to see that car go through traffic and see how good it really is. cool.gif He'll be a tough one at Talladega. Junior did great, 39th to 3rd.

As for that first wreck, I blame the 42 and 10. Looks like the first to blame the 24 was Riggs. blush.gif I'd say the 10 is at blame as much as the 42. Riggs said he would have been able to see Gordon wave. And Gordon did wave.

Great race, glad to see Junior do well, and Stewart definately earned that win! I think that wreck is on the 42, but i really just think it wassomething bound to happen with them that tight and pit stops starting. Can you imagine racing in that tight and trying to pick up a driver waving his hand? It was sad to see Martin out, also too bad Waltrip lost that tire, he had a good run going.

Was really good to see the #8 up front for a whole race. Tony did a great job, even if he is "too darn fat" to be climbing fences!...lol

As for the wreck with Gordon entering pit road. I bet at night, with the lights there is some glare off of the windows of the cars ,and it might not be as easy to see someone giving hand signals. McMurray said he was waving all the way down the backstretch, but he didn't as he followed gordon onto pit road. Pretty much just a racing accident in my opinion.

For as long as I have watched racing... the signal that you were pitting was waving the right hand, inside the car, exactly like Gordon did.

Hard to blame Riggs for missing that, when you are at Daytona, and going through turns 3 and 4 at 190mph plus.

i might be wrong but i thought benny parson said he saw gordon wave out the window & out the back???.... i did see him wave out the back, but not out of the window, but of course i was'nt there either...i have heard some drivers say depending on the seat you use & your window netting, you cannot get your hand out of the window far enough for the guy behind you to see it, that is why they wave out the back.........i think jamie was to scared to let the wheel go to wave!!!!!..... grin.gif

Re: Awesome finish in Daytona.

It did seem odd that Gordon waved once on the backstretch and no thru the turn when he was slowing down. I'm not blaming it on Gordo, but i think it would be better for all the drivers who are making green flag stops to get on the apron instead of slowing down in the racing groove and waiting 'til the last minute to get on pit road. I don't think it was really anyone's fault, the drivers can't be expected to communicate with each other as they go thru the corner 2 and 3 wide at 190-that should be the spotters responsibility.

Watching Junior finish 3rd was like watching him win the race with the kind of year he has been having.

The race sucked in IMO. Where the heck where the 20 or something lead changes we are use to seeing at Daytona ? And the follow the leader for the entire race got to be real boring. I think the drivers complaining about the wicker packages, pretty much took out the excitement of plate racing in my book.
