Re: food plot

50# wheat

50# rye grain

25# oats

25# Austrian winter peas

3# brassicas (turnips/rape)

fertilize with 250# of triple 13 at time of planting then (VERY important) about 2 weeks prior to bow season (when there is a good chance of a rain) broadcast 50# of 34-0-0.

good luck

Re: food plot

Sorta depends upon your locale and soil conditions, but turnips are an excellent fall plot, they are cheap, and you can eat them if the deer don't!

You might check out these guys, they have some very good mixtures...

MBS SEED

Talk to Chris Garcia there and he'll give you some good ideas!

[ QUOTE ]

todd my food plots r about an acre or smaller would the pounds of all the seed you posted be good for that size food plot

[/ QUOTE ]

those rates are for one acre. you can adjust as needed but as long as your close to an acre those rates will work. the oats will die at the first freeze so they don't really compete much with the other plants. you don't want to go much heavier with the brassicas as they have very large leaves and can shade out your other plantings.

good luck

Re: food plot

Add some crimson clover. And you wont even have to get a loan to buy it. grin.gif

Lime can be more or just as important as fertilizer. If the ph is way off the plants cant absorb the fertilizer so I would add 250 lbs of pelitized lime also. All soil needs some lime. Good luck. smirk.gif
