maddhunter
I planted purple top turnups with mine last fall and the deer just mowed them down. And came back and dug up the bulbs.
dogdoc
Re: food plot 50# wheat 50# rye grain 25# oats 25# Austrian winter peas 3# brassicas (turnips/rape) fertilize with 250# of triple 13 at time of planting then (VERY important) about 2 weeks prior to bow season (when there is a good chance of a rain) broadcast 50# of 34-0-0. good luck todd
christsavedme
Re: food plot Todd.....I like the mixture you posted.....almost the same as what we plant with the exeption that we use clover instead of brassicas......may have to add that in this year! wtnhunt
Re: food plot Sounds like a great mix there Todd. Might have to give that a try this fall.
jdickey
Re: food plot Sorta depends upon your locale and soil conditions, but turnips are an excellent fall plot, they are cheap, and you can eat them if the deer don't! You might check out these guys, they have some very good mixtures... MBS SEED Talk to Chris Garcia there and he'll give you some good ideas! dogdoc
Re: food plot [ QUOTE ] todd my food plots r about an acre or smaller would the pounds of all the seed you posted be good for that size food plot [/ QUOTE ] those rates are for one acre. you can adjust as needed but as long as your close to an acre those rates will work. the oats will die at the first freeze so they don't really compete much with the other plants. you don't want to go much heavier with the brassicas as they have very large leaves and can shade out your other plantings. good luck todd

dogdoc
Re: food plot [ QUOTE ] todd i dont know my soil ph level would it still be a good idea to put 250 pounds of fertilizer on an acre food plot [/ QUOTE ] yep!
bowhtr1
Re: food plot Add some crimson clover. And you wont even have to get a loan to buy it. Lime can be more or just as important as fertilizer. If the ph is way off the plants cant absorb the fertilizer so I would add 250 lbs of pelitized lime also. All soil needs some lime. Good luck. Thayer
Re: food plot Less than a week from a local coop, otherwise, you're at the mercy of the persons you are sending it to. Good luck!
