Sam16
The last 2 years i have been passing everything except a wallhanger. Well i've had does all over me those 2 years. This year im hunting a new property where i have to shoot a doe in order to shoot a buck. So here it is... October 25th and i cant get a stinkin doe in range. So anyways, saturday morning i was in the stand and i had a doe and 2 fawns come sprinting in to about 30 yards from me. Well i coulda smoked the two fawns, but i would feel too bad. So i was waiting for the doe, called her back to 30 yards 3 different times with the can but could never get a shot. Finally she circles in behind me at 25 yards... one more step and her vitals will be open. All of a sudden she scent checks the air and freaks out and runs like 20 yards. At this point i'm facing my tree looking behind and im thinking she winded me. Well i turn around to see where the fawns went a theres a nice 130-ish 8 pt standing at 25 yards. I havent had a shooter buck in range with an open shot in 3 years and the one year i cant shoot them they stand there and taunt me!!! What is the deal?!!? It was a great encounter though and really got the blood flowing. Guess i'll get 'em later after i shoot a stupid doe!
kyhunter
Re: What are the chances... Sat. AM hunt What i think is great about this,is that you have encountered what may be a start of some great pre rut hunting and all you have to do is help manage the doe ratio alittle.Good luck and i hope there is a big 180 dominate buck that comes running in for ya when it is time to shoot the buck. kyhunter
Guest Finn
Re: What are the chances... Sat. AM hunt They just seem to know when you can't shoot 'em. Chances are excellent you'll get another crack at him. Good luck with the does. They are sometimes tougher to get than a buck.
