Re: Renzo 2D Decoys

I have the buck, mostly because the doe was not available when I bought mine about three years ago.

Last year, I shot a doe off the buck decoy. I had probably a dozen does come in an check him out. They would not leave him alone, even after I shot one of the does with my bow.

In the past, I've had mixed results, like anything else. I've had it scare deer off and had it draw them in like they were on a string.

Re: Renzo 2D Decoys

I've got a Montana decoy, its a doe standing broad side with its head up. Last fall was my first experience with deer decoys, and it worked out wonderfully. I set it up in an alfalfa field about 30 yards infront of me with my scent blowing straight towards it, not into the bush. My thoughts when I set it up that it would make does feel comfortable and have them enter the field a little earlier, inturn bringing the bucks with them. Instead, a 120 class buck was the first deer to show, and walked right up to it, something I wasn't expecting. Even with my scent blowing at him he just kept grunting all the way up to the decoy, and I dropped him about two steps before he got it. He must have been crusing the edge looking for does, when he saw the decoy. You can bet I'll be using it again this fall, hopefully something bigger will show.

Personally I would get the Renzos buck if I was getting only 1. Reason being, you can use it as 4 different dekes. 1) standing buck, 2)bedded buck, and by trimming off the antlers with an exacto knife, you get a standing or bedded doe. The antlers will go back on with a couple pieces of wood, sticks, metal or whatever. I use them all the time and have had great success with them. You won't regret it.

[/ QUOTE ] Very good points here. Lob off the antlers and you have a doe. I have been pondering a decoy for archery season....I just may get one.

Re: Renzo 2D Decoys

this is cool.. last year Billkay invited me to meet him at a deer hunting lodge in southern Iowa .. we talked a lot and had some great steaks ..

i got to meet some real serious deer hunters and Steve Lorenzo , the inventer of Renzos decoys ..

after talking to him a bunch and really likeing his decoys he gave me 3 of them to use and try out.. cool.gif

they work great and are easy to set up .. i had a small buck come into the buck decoy , he circled just like he was supposed to and i could have shot him easy at 22 yards.. but i passed because he was just a small 120 class buck...

definately a good idea if your rattleing or grunting during prerut . the doe would be best during rut..
