Guest benelli_man_84
I have a question for yall, A feller i know is offerring a pistol for sale to me for $400. I is a 1911 with a colt frame, a springfield slide, a ported shilling barrel, pachmyr grips, and a high rise hammer on it. Is this a fair price?? hangunnr
Re: 45 question The value on something like this is very hard to determine. I would insist on having a competent gunsmith give her a once over to make sure the fitting of the barrel and slide was done correctly. If the gun checks out OK then take it to the range to see if it functions right. If the seller won't let you check it out then I'd pass on it. hangunnr
Guest Xen
Re: 45 question gotta agree with hangunnr on that. especially if it is a used gun, there should be no reason the guy wouldn't let you shoot it first, unless he's afraid of what you might find. i did notice you worded it as "a feller i know" and not friend. not that the guy would try to hose you, but if you bought the gun and didn't like it, would he take it back? Guest benelli_man_84
Re: 45 question boys, He was a customer of mine when I was still in landscaping, and a very loyal customer. I also hunt with him, and he bought a stockpile of pistols and old parts from an older gentleman who used to shoot competively. I knew the older guy. He was dying of cancer with no family. He told me that he has the components to build about 5 of these, (he has a lot of 45 parts)and let me shoot all of them, and pick out the one i like. He will warranty the parts for one year he said. I have dealt with him before, and he gives and asks a square deal. I appreciate it though. Now do you think it is worth the money if I can be assured that it will shoot accurate and right, considering that he is a gunsmith?
hangunnr
Re: 45 question I personally feel $400 is a bit on the high side. I wouldn't pay that much unless the slide and frame matched. With that said, if you really like the gun and are comfortable with the guns origins then go for it. The value of a gun is only what someone is willing to pay for it. You may be happy to pay that much for it but understand a dealer or for that matter another shooter may not. hangunnr
