TreeWalker
Finally got out on Monday for a full afternoon of Scouting.....covered a couple hundred miles and lots of backroads.......saw lots of nice Goats, several that would go P&Y.........but I hadn't viewed any really big n heavy bucks...........I decided to head to the area where I had witnessed the same "heart-shaped" buck two years in a row............If some of you remember from last year, I couldn't find him during bow season, but located him right before the rifle opener.......had my crosshairs on him as the season opened only to have the hunt ruined by some slob hunters...........I felt sure that the buck had not made it through the gauntlet of lead slingers and pasture patrols last year....... So imagine my suprise as I stopped my rig once again like so many other times to glass goats, and find him once again in my Nikon optics ?!?!?! There was no mistaking him.....and a mere 2 miles from where I had watched him last year.......he was solo and just a little jittery.......I couldn't get any close ups of him this time around.....will have to wait till he get's some does rounded up in the next month or so...........but I did snap one quickie as he headed over a hill......it's pretty grainy and doesn't do the buck justice, but he was out there quite a ways (this pic was a 30x digital zoom cranked)......... For those of you that didn't catch the pics last year.......here he is with a smaller buck which i did end up filling my rifle tag on.....that smaller buck went just under 75"...... And here is a good pic of him last year.........from all indications, he is shaped nearly identicle.........can't wait to scout him a little harder and get some more pics for you guys in these closing months..... Good luck getting your buck, he looks worthy. BeanMan

Guest Phaseolus (BeanMan)
Re: Been Scouting Antelope.....pics ColoradoBob, I drew the Statewide hunt which excludes the best draw units but is still a good tag. I will probably hunt unit 3 by Maybell or maybe 68 on my brothers place near La Garita. Too bad 41 is not included because there is a nice buck about a mile from my house. Cheers, BeanMan
Guest Colorado Bob
Re: Been Scouting Antelope.....pics Beanman----Lots of good goats in Unit 3. Seemed like any thing that was irrigated had a group of antlelope. This was around Craig on the hiway north to Baggs. As saw some REALLY GOOD ones around the power plant !! Guest Phaseolus (BeanMan)
Re: Been Scouting Antelope.....pics ColoradoBob, I drive by those goats at the powerplants pretty often, my parents live in Steamboat Springs. Unfortuantely you can't hunt there and the goats know it. They do get pretty big. I've hunted unit 3 5 or 6 times for doe goats back before the drought and once for a buck, all with rifle. This will be my first time with the frontstuffer. I didn't draw a deer tag but did get a blackpowder cow tag as a 2nd choice, going to hunt 61 when I get a few more points, there are lots of nice bulls and it is only 45 minutes away. 101 in Palisade today, Hope Durango was cooler. G-Daddy
Re: Been Scouting Antelope.....pics I've got my application in the Montana draw. I guess the quotas won't be set until early August and the draw is supposed to be completed shortly thereafter. Sure am getting antsy waiting though.
