LLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!

That is what everyone says til they try it. When we used to cook them all the time we would not tell people what they were. They would eat them and then we would tell them and it either went 1 of 2 way. They got sick or they wanted more. Funny thing is alot of people will eat them but they don't want people to know that they did. Bad part is when you have to talke all the cords loose. LOL!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Parts is parts....

Deer heart is awesome. We usually make a meal out of it at deer camp. Its good fried or in a gravy over pototoes or noodles. YUM

I've eaten about every part of a pig. Tongue, kidney, eyeballs. The eyeballs are really good. But you have to squeege out the pupil area, or it won't be as good. We butcher hogs every year, and make headcheese and liver sausage. hmmmm good.

All those poor little boy-cows. That's just NAS-TEE. tongue.gif

Well, they're going to lose them anyway. You don't see bulls at the feedlots, just steers. Why throw them away when they're so tasty?

Well, I guess I'd rather not know what get's cut off and tossed out. (Or put in my beloved hot-dogs) grin.gif

Re: Parts is parts....

I dont eat any of the organs, but the younger generation is a whole world apart from the old .

The older peeps used to use EVERYTHING in the animal, nothing went to waste. I think thats how some of these recipies got started.

I remember my grandma used to make a lambs head for easter...cabootzella (sp?) It was called.

You had to see how my uncles would chow down on the eyes and brains and slice meat off the head and eat like nothing was wrong. While I stared at them.

This was before the days of chicken nuggets grin.gif

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we as humans don't eat any carnivores ...correct?

With maybe the exception of a bear.

Who is a omnivore.

Re: Parts is parts....

I've had many an arrow pass through the deers heart and/or liver,,,,, just cut away the damage meat and enjoy the rest. Sometimes I soak the liver overnight in milk, some people say it helps remove the strong flavor. Don't really know if that's true or not but I have done it when the liver comes from an older buck or doe.

Re: Parts is parts....

One of my bowhunting buddies, when he field dresses his deer, takes the lungs along with the heart and liver. First time I saw him do it I asked him why he wanted them and he said his mother has some fantastic recipe for deer lungs that he loves. I thought he was kidding, but he wasn't. That sounded kinda gross to me so I didn't ask anymore questions.

Re: Parts is parts....

I've had pickled and fried deer heart. Very tender and was surprisingly tasty. Deer liver and onions is great!

As for pigs feet, cow tongue, chicken feet - NO WAY!

I have a venison cookbook that had a recipe that called for moufflet. I looked it up and found that it is the "outer lining of the lips and nose of a deer". crazy.gif

As for hotdogs - I can't stand them things. At least with liver and deer heart, you know what you are eating. Who knows what's in a hotdog? The only way to eat them things is blackened (burnt) over a fire.
