Got a question to ask???

AS some of you know I got a "maybe" out of the land owner. Today he called and gave me the green light to start scouting. I was very happy and told him I appreiciated it. Great news...

Just wait guys. The sorta bad news is I have to share the land with his family that comes down to hunt also. These guys are bowhunters but more black powder rifle hunters.

Would you all still take advantage of the land and permission I got? Or would you say forget it and let them hunt it. The good thing is they only come down for the weekends. Every two weeks.

Thanks Boyz

Heck yeah, still hunt it, but try to stay away from the land when they are in town, you know? The land owner said you can hunt it, so do what he said, hunt it, and good luck.

Re: Got a question to ask???

if they only come every two weeks, hunt the weeks they aren't there. you could hunt the 5 days during the week, then let the family hunt that weekend, then for the next week, and weekend, neither of you hunt, then you hunt your 5 days again and on and on.

Re: Got a question to ask???

I would definately hunt it!!!

Just don't wear out your welcome. I personally wouldn't hunt when the familly was there. Sounds like there will be ample time to hunt that land. I would also ask him where he thought they liked to hunt and try to stay away from that area if possible. Chances are if you make them mad or if they think your intruding on thier spots they may influance him differently. They may not be as good hearted as he is.

Re: Got a question to ask???

Absolutely!!! You oughta think of something to give to the landowner from time to time too. Be sure to introduce yourself to the family when they show up too.

Like you said his family is mainly MZ hunters. Sounds like you might see them once or twice during bow season. You might not see them more than 3 or 4 weekends over the course of the year. They aren't putting any pressure on the property. We have some members in our hunting club that are like that. Love um! wink.gif

Re: Got a question to ask???

Id hunt it definately.i share a lotta hunting spots with landowners families.I just try to find out what areas of the farm they hunt and keep my stands away from thiers, and if they only hunt weekends then i would only hunt the farm weekdays. The idea is to try to stay outta the way as much as possible, the less they see of you the less likely you are to run into conflicts and screw each others hunting up.If the landowner doesnt get any complaints about you from his family your almost gauranteed to be welcomed back to hunt in the following years. wink.gif

I would hunt it...families that hunt property rarely usually hunt the same places. The deer will know this. I would find out where they are hunting and get in there before them in the morning, loop around back, and let them push one of thoes two big boys over you!

Re: Got a question to ask???

Find out when they are hunting and hunt other times. Also offer to help them with their stands or anything that needs to be done around the land. Just be as respectful as possible. If you kill a deer, give them some meat. Whatever you do, don't leave any type of trash around or damage property.

I'd also talk over what deer are on the table. I'd specifically as if I'm "doe only, or bucks OK to shoot."

Tom tooks the words out my mouth. He mentioned before about does, make sure you find out for sure. I also you think you are one lucky hunter smirk.gifgrin.gif

Re: Got a question to ask???

If you are asking because you feel guilty about hunting on land already being hunted by someone else, don't, the landowner gave you permission. If there is a problem he would not have let you hunt there. If you are asking because you do not want to share private land with other hunter go back to kindergarten and learn the golden rules. Good luck this season.
