superguide
Just got home from having supper with Brett and his family-awesome elk roast. Seems one of our local bears dropped in yesterday-just after they arrived and chewed up their tent. Now there's a baited live trap about 10 yards from their campsite. Sureshot is sleeping with his hatchet so the score could get evened by morning lol.
Jeramie
Re: Bears 1-Sureshot 0 Hatchet? More like a .357! If I were in a tent, with a bear, a hatchet would be a little lower down the rung of choices! Btw, did you save me any elk?

superguide
Re: Bears 1-Sureshot 0 I'm taking the fifth on that one Buckee-Ty was ready to pit right inand do battle lol. Were just lousy with young bear up here this year. The outfitters take the big boars which are those young bears biggest predators.
birddog
Re: Bears 1-Sureshot 0 Hey Jeramie: You don't know sureshot A hatchet seems a little far gone for us, but ol' Bret would probably choose it, for the excitement
too_pointer
Re: Bears 1-Sureshot 0 I agree, Bret probably doesn't even need a hatchet LOL. Go get-em buddy

HuntingInMaine
Re: Bears 1-Sureshot 0 I think I would have placed the bait a little further away! Seems like there are a lot of bear sightings all over the place this year. A friend of mine had to shoot a bear in his front yard last week. It was throwing trash cans all over the place and went after his dog. The game wardens wouldn't let him keep the meat though. Doesn't seem fair since he was the one that had a mess to clean up and almost lost his dog!
superguide
Re: Bears 1-Sureshot 0 Well Brett got even at 4'00 A'M when the bear got caught-seems Brett had a man to bear talk with him for an hour or so. I really pity the next one that shows up lol.

sureshot
Re: Bears 1-Sureshot 0 well guys made it home safe and still married lol!! the bear smelled a bounce sheet in the suitcase I think, it was the only thing smelly there,it was less than a hour after we set up camp! spent 2 days and night with the bear around the site at night, the night it was caught I had to go out in my sleeping apparial lol, with the hatchet in right and knife in left hand ready to go at her ,I was not impressed, wife and kids were scared,Icould not leave early in the morning for hikes, plus once they caught the bear [2 year old] anotherone was spotted sniffing at the old trap area abotu 40 ft from our site! all the scared started up again!! I do not think they should of put the trap that close to our tent either but it was done and all was ok, just glad the bear did not try to get in out tent at night becouse like I told the warden it was not leavign the site! superguide the squrrel got in the bread but also had a drink of hot coffee, you shoudl see a squirell with a burnt tounge lol!!
