Re: Red Dot Scope?

I can't say how it would perform on a bow, but I read not to long ago that when used on shotguns for Turkey hunting, it is great for the shots further away, but it may cause you to miss the shot close up. I will be interested in finding out how they perform. Please let us know.

Re: Red Dot Scope?

are you talking about the red dot that shoots a laser beam or the holographic variety. If i am not mistaken, the holographic sights allow for range adjustment similar to a moving single pin sight. The laser ones I am not sure about on longer ranges, but you can pull the bow to full draw and shoot it from anywhere and it from anywhere (bow on one side of the tree your head on the other type thing) and it hits where the dot is at the given range provided a decent follow through.

Re: Red Dot Scope?

I thought about doing this a couple years ago and bought a cheap BSA Red Dot from Walmart for like $29.

Then shopped around everywhere for the mounting bracket. Cheapest I found was around $100!!! (new)

Screw that I only paid $29 for the optics! LOL

I ended up putting it on my turkey shot gun instead and do like it a lot for turkey hunting.

(relative same yardages)

Re: Red Dot Scope?

I tried the Red Dot Scope on my bow and in sunny conditions I lost the red dot, hard to find it and you find yourself moving the bow around or at least your head trying to find the red dot. As you all know you can't be moving all around on stand so needless to say I took it off my bow and sold it to my buddy. Sportsman guide has them with the bracket for around $40.00 or so. There are better models out there with brackets that adjust better but they are really up there in price.

I did see a store selling just the bracket though for the BSA Red Dot scopes. If memory serves me right, it was Dunhams. Maybe on a crossbow that would be similiar to a shooting a gun its great but on my compound I had a hard time getting it somewhat sighted in. Just didn't like the fact under sunny conditions I could not see that red dot and it was on the highest power setting.

Hope it works out well for those that try it.

Re: Red Dot Scope?

I seen the bracket for about $20.00 for the BSA model but its not like the $100.00 bracket, that bracket has more adjustments on it and may make sighting it in better.

The BSA is nothing more than a piece of flat metal with some spacers and (2) plastic coated knob nuts. The rail of the BSA mounts to the bracket. Pretty simple but I couldn't get that model to work for me.

$19.99 at most Dunham stores. That is the BSA model but I am sure the other red dots out there could work with BSA's bracket.
