He won,in his second race filling in for Sterling in the 40 car, when Sterling fractured a bone in his neck. It was at Charlotte ( I can't call it Lowes) in the fall of 2002. I haven't looked it up, but in 1998 when Jr. won the championship in the Busch Series for DEI, didn't Matt Kenseth finish 3rd in points? In 1999 When Jr. won the Busch Series Championship for DEI, didn't Matt Kenseth finish 2nd in points? So...you are correct.....they competed against NO ONE! I know...Kenseth won a cup championship.
