I was out today putting some 6" spacers between the base frame and the wall framing of my 4x8 metal framed box stand. I designed the window height about 6" to low and decided this was the year I was gonna fix it. Well you can imagine I had the Dewalt 18v drill squeeling away with a 12" long 3/8" drill bit to punch holes threw the many layers of framing I welded together... All along having deer feed no less then 100-120 yards away from me. Oh I got an occasional galnce, but thats it. Even when I was done and packng up the milk crate and slammin the tail gate, starting up the pick up, they just watched me. Yea now try this come October and you wont see nare a deer for miles... I've been out weeding that thing every night for the past 2 days because it's cooler in the evening. Tonight as I ran out of light and pulled the last weed for the day, I took one step out of the plot and a doe blows, not 30 yards from me. The wind was right so I don't think she winded me, and I was crouched down while I was weeding, but she had to have heard me pulling and grunting and what not. I swear they know. They just do not give a rats hind end if my truck is out there at all. This is literally the 10th time I have been out working on the property with my truck parked right there and deer just walk on by or feed at a very close range. Not bow range but definately rifle. My fiance had finished working yesterday and just shut off the generator when a buck walked through the back yard, across the driveway and into the woods across the street. The deer walked past him and the guy he was working with and acted like he couldn't care less that they were there. Too bad that never happens in November!
