Sort of. I dont plant anything but instead just keep the hunters and tree stands out of an area that I know deer frequent. Its more of a transition area an escape route for them during the fall.

I feel you cant hunt every single acre of your land or you'll run them off every year once the arrows and lead fly...

I plant a food plot that I don't hunt over. I let the deer have it for a sanuctary. Great idea for hunters that have big parcals of land. Keeps the 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 year old bucks around. I've done this tactic for a couple of years and it works to a T. You will harvest more bigger deer and have quality bucks to hunt for the futre years. Don't hunt the trails to the food plot either. A deer sanuctary. Trust me in works.

Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of doing this. I usually plant fall food plots the land I hunt the farmer plants spring crops. But you are no doubt doing the right thing. I've read several testimonials about hunters planting 3+ acres clover plots as sanctuaries and never hunting over them & seeing huge deer on their land.

Re: does anyone do this................

It is a great idea and my dad has a place like this back home, but here where I hunt now we just don't have enough land to do that. There is however one spot that is about 20 acres that we stay out of during hunting season. An extremely thick bedding area. There is really no way to hunt it so we just stay out of there. Seems to help us out.
