maddhunter
Found this snake at my father's house half way buried in a hole by his front porch. I first though it was a black snake but never seen one with yellow spots on it before. Don't know if you can see the yellow spots that good but they are bright yellow. Didn't have my camera, so my brother took a pic with his phone and sent it to me. Wish we would've taken a pic of the whole thing be we didn't. Can't see it very well but this is it's head. It is kinda diamond shaped but it didn't have any fangs that I could see.

Tominator
Re: What kind of snake is this? Never have seen one of those around here. If you see 100 snakes in Ohio, I'd bet 98 of them would be garters, unless you were up around the islands. Snakes don't bother me a bit. They'll startle me every now and then, but the ones we have around my property are the good ones that kill other pests.

Team Realtree
Re: What kind of snake is this? I used to have that "kill 'em all" mindset, but me and my boys have studied what snakes look like more and more over the past couple of years. And when I stopped killing the common garter snakes we have around here, the cottonmouth (moccasins) sightings have disappeared (I live on a creek). The garter snakes are no different than the common greco lizards we have around here. We actually caught a little one about a year ago and after he had made several successful escapes decided to let him go. A local timber guy I know said that it is true. If folks learn what King, Rat, and Garters look like and they left them alone, the rattlers and cottonmouths won't be an issue. S
too_pointer
Re: What kind of snake is this? They made killing rattlesnakes a crime here in Mi. They can kill you, but you better not touch them
