Helical?

I've never shot an arrow with helical, but I'm planning on buying some GTs. Some i found on ebay have a 6 degree right helical, is that too much? because others i've seen have only 3 degree.

Does it matter whether i go with right or left helical?

I'll be shooting them over either a Shakey hunter rest, VBG dropaway, or a Ripcord. I havn't decided on the rest.

Any help or opinions are appreciated.

Re: Helical?

I just shoot offset vanes on my GT XT Hunters. You should have no problem with a properly tuned drop away rest clearance wise. Left helical or right helical doesn't matter, they both will work fine. as for 3 degree or 6 dergree...I'm not sure, as I'm not real familiar with helical, having never shot helical. I would think 6 degrees would induce more spin in your arrows, helping stabalize broadheads better, but I'm not 100% sure.

Re: Helical?

Myself I use a slight offset. I used a hard helical when I first started hunting because thats what were on the arrows when I bought them. When I got my new bow (Switchback) the hard helical made too much noise in flight. Unless you are planning on useing a wide fixed broadhead I would go with the 3 degrees. JMO

Re: Helical?

I have used 11* right helical and it spins em great off my long bow.

On my compund arrows, when I shot compounds, I use right offset for my whisker biscut.

As far as right or left, that only matter when your shooting arrows off the knuckle on trad bows.

You will imediately know if your using the wrong helical that way.

The bloody knuckle will show the way. LOL
