Shaun_300
Re: Walleye [ QUOTE ] Tagged? It could have been worth some money. [/ QUOTE ] LOL I wish! The MNR tags them up here, i have no clue for what reason, i think it is to keep track of they're lifespan or something.....
fisherguy
Re: Walleye shaun, they tag to track movements, growth rates etc. The MNR usually appreciates it if you record the tag #, the fish's length and girth, and release it. If you call this info into the local biologist it helps them study the subject population. I have never caught a tagged fish...but that is likely because my home area is remote enough they don't do tagging studies. lol
Shaun_300
Re: Walleye Jim, i wanted to record that info, but i didn't have a pen or tape measure on me. this is my first tagged fish. from now on i'll carry a writing utensil in my tackle box
fisherguy
Re: Walleye Ya, i have a pencil with mine so i can record measurements of big fish i release. If it is during the legal season you can keep tagged fish, but they ask you to release them to help them study teh population.
Shaun_300
Re: Walleye i would have kept this one to eat, but Golden Lake has a ban on walleye because they are re-stalking it... putting a total of 165,000 fingerlings in. the ban is ended as of December 31st, 2006... can't wait! That walleye easily went 5 pounds, and i'm guessing around 26-28"
