Our truck that is......

I have a 98 XLT ford pickup and this thing has been a night mare.

I had just gotten it out of the shop here about a month ago, having a bunch of work done on the front end of this thing and it's out again... mad.gif

I had new inner and outer tie rod ends, idler arm and pitman arm put on this thing and now there all ready out again. Not only that the upper and bottom balls joints on both sides are gone and need to be replaced.....

This truck has been nothing but a money pit.

I took the day off and made some phone calls for some price quotes and just to replace the upper and lower ball joints is going to cost any where from 800.00 to a 1000.00 dollars.

There ain't no way I'm going to dish out this kind of money again for this piece of junk....

Man that just burns my but.....

So I am going to tackle this project myself. Heck the parts don't cost that much and I figure with my labor I can save a bundle....

I can't for the life of me figure out why the front end keeps going out like this...

Ok I'm done venting now....

My question to yall and I hope someone can tell me...

On these ball joints. How hard are they to change?

Do they have to be pressed in and out....

I can use any advise before I get started....

Thanks.......

MAKE SURE YOU TRUST THE GUY DOING THE WORK.I HAD PUT NEW TIRES AND HAD AN ALIGNMENT ON MY TRUCK AND I HEARD ALL THE SAME STUFF.MY TRUCK HAS 30,000 MILES ON IT AND I DONT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH UNEVEN TIRE WEAR OR PULLING TO EITHER SIDE.I THINK THESE PARTS WILL LAST A LITTLE LONGER THAN THAT.IF THE PARTS ARE BAD THERE MAY BE SOME KIND OF WARRENTY ON THEM.I DONT TRUST TO MANY SHOPS AROUND HERE ANYMORE AND TO DO MOST THINGS MYSELF.

I would take it back. Those are 100,000 mile parts and should not wear that fast. My dad had a 92 F150 that he had in for the same thing and 6 months later they were junk again. He took it back and turns out they forgot to tighten everything up after they got it all back together. They paid to replace it all.

Re: I\'m just about ready to shoot it.......

Ball joints are easy too change just need wrenches and a hammer the hammer too tap the side of the joint and it will just pop off real easy no need too hit it hard just forcefull but I think you have other issues other then just ball joints I would get it checked by yuour dealer ... then maybe you can fix it yourself ... have a pro check it then save the money ... I wouldnt want my front end going out on me ... Gl
