...oops...hit enter by mistake...lol.. The snort wheeze is a sound a buck makes when it is challenging another buck. I ussually hear that noise when a doe has me pegged, and she is sitting there stomping her feet, and head faking me trying to get me to move.

A snort-wheeze is tons different than a doe alarm snort, there's just no comparison.

I've only heard a snort-wheeze twice in all my years of hunting. IMHO bucks only do this when they are agitated and riled up by the rut. The wheezing (like Waddell is doing with his pursed lips) is a challenge to other bucks in the area.

The second snort wheezing session that I witnessed was 2 years ago, and it was quite the show. This little 7 ptr was at the top of a hill where I was, and there was a hot doe in the area. This little buck was not a breeder and he was being run off by a much larger buck in the area. Well this little 7pt would run down the hill, snort wheeze, then run back up the hill only to be run off again by the bigger bucks. So he kept running up and down that hill, snort wheezing at the bottom each time. I watched him do that 3 or 4 times. It was pretty cool.

You'll know a wheeze when you hear it because it's so distinctive, it doesn't sound like anything else a deer does.

And, finally, IMHO, you won't hear a wheeze unless there's a close buck to doe ratio in your area. In both cases where I witnessed the snort wheezes, the deer were really lathered up by a hot doe in the area.

A snort wheeze and a blow are toatlly different.

Have never been able to make a snort wheeze sound quite like Waddell does, so I have not tried it in the field.

Thanks for straighteneing me out on the difference between the snort wheeze, and blowing. I honestly thought they were the same noise.

Re: Wheezin\'

Sometimes it's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog.........I watched a small 2x4 buck, whoop up on a respectable 4x4.....he was just more aggresive......

HAHA....been working on my snort wheeze to since seeing that RT dvd.........I've actually got a call, but it takes a flutist to make the thing make a sound............I've heard it two times in the last 5 years also........both times were early morning.........
