GWSmith
Getting a new Rifle and want to get some advice on the best combination to top it off with in bases, rings, and scope for under $200 Here's the rifle: Remington 7400 in
tedicast
Re: Need Advice on a limited budget A friend of mine showed me his Weatherby Vanguard last week. He had a Simmons 4x12x40 Prohunter scope on it. I was very impressed with the clarity of the scope for the price. Natchez has them for under $100. I also don't think you can go wrong with a Nikon ProStaff scope. Some good deals on ebay on brand new pro-staffs. As for base and rings, I personally never use anything but Leupold base and rings. A little more money, but I have never had a problem with a set yet.
VTbowman
Re: Need Advice on a limited budget Now sure about this one. I have only bought one scope and it was arounf $550.
AJ
Re: Need Advice on a limited budget If it were me, I would use one of these: Burris Fullfield II Nikon Buckmaster Refurbished Nikon Monarch Simmons Aetec Master Series mounted on a Weaver base with Weaver rings. The base and rings should be around $20-$25.
dogdoc
Re: Need Advice on a limited budget Gary---I have a Bushnell Banner on my .30-06 with weaver bases and rings. That scope has been on it now for 5 year and I have never had to readjust the scope. It came with the gun so I have no idea how old the scope is. When I first bought the gun/scope combo I noticed the scope had a fog inside it. I sent it to the factory--they fixed it for ten bucks and I have never had to do anything else to it. I will admit though when I purchased my Tikka .25-06 I put a leupold on it and the leupold is so much brighter but it cost quite a bit more than a new bushnell will. todd
JimT
Re: Need Advice on a limited budget Burris FFII will run you about $250.00 with rings and bases thru Natchez. I would go that route.
PAhardwoods
Re: Need Advice on a limited budget I would also go with the Burris FFII.....I've gone one on top of my winmag.....and love it!! Cody
David_218
Re: Need Advice on a limited budget One of my Deer Hunting Buddies has the same rifle in .270. He has a Redfield wideview 3-9 power scope, mounted in see-through mounts. Seem to work fine for him.
7th
Re: Need Advice on a limited budget The big thing that I will say is the base and rings are the most improtent thing there is. I put the money into them and have cheap scopes doing great. For the base I would go with a single Millit base and Millet rings. For the money you can not beet them and putting twice the money into them don't help. Look at www.Riflescopes4less.com www.midwayusa.com , look up cheeper then dirt or Gear guied. The big thing is don't skimp on the rings and base. The army gives me Leupol to shoot but I shoot Simmons on all my guns that I buy the scopes for. Guest cowpoke
Re: Need Advice on a limited budget Get Warne Maxima bases and the peramant attach rings and a Nikon Pro-staff 3-9x 40. Cabelas has all the parts the Warnes are powder coated steel and are rock solid. altogether should be a little over $200.. about $220. GWSmith
Re: Need Advice on a limited budget [ QUOTE ] hey Gary---got enough opinions yet??? [/ QUOTE ] LOL...I think so but I made a major mistake tonight when picking up my rifle. I picked up a few more...just to try them out Then my wife, in her infinite wisdom, gave me the green light to get whatever I wanted because she would pick out her own rifle when she was ready I came home with nothing! I just couldnt make up my mind between the Browning A-Bolt or the Tikka T-3 and a few others!!! I did decide that the Nikon Prostaff Scope is mine though...so I did accomplish something
