manufacturing cost

I know a little bit about machining. Most of the bows today have fully machined risers done by CNC machines. Computer Numeric Control.

These machines are NOT cheap. You can see them on the custom chopper shows when they cut wheels out of a billet of aluminum. Most mass produced firearms have fully benifitted from this CNC process.

Almost everything that has to be machined is more precisely made today thanks to CNC. The tolerances are closer than they will ever be.

I think I'm in LOVE with my Mathews...

R&D is most likely the major cost of the product.

If you look at what goes into these bows today, its not hard to wind up spending over a grand for a set up.

Re: manufacturing cost

I was in manufacturing for over 15 years. Adam is not far off base. But also keep in mind that the bow manufacturers want a net profit margin of anywhere from 35 to 50%. Plus add on the dealer mark-up of 15 to 25%. So mark-up based on cost will be 300 to 500%.

Re: manufacturing cost

I pro formed my Phoneix last summer. That means I got it for the price bass pro gets it. I got the package which retailed for at least $730 for a hair under $400. If that tells you the mark up...then you have to take off some bc the company has to make money off the bows...either way their is a lot of mark up for the top end bows.
