huntinsonovagun
Re: What\'s your opinion on this deer? I think the reason he is considering the deer above is because if that is a 3 1/2 year old, he needs to be taken out of the herd. Ohio has hunters that pass young forks, 6s, etc. up. Most Oklahoma hunters shoot ANY buck. Therefore, a lot of deer do not reach maturity. Also, once an Oklahoma deer reaches 8 points, he is almost sure to get shot at because that is considered a good deer, only because people are used to getting spikes/forks. OK would have more BC/PY deer if they would pass the young ones. I agree, Ohio has the crops and genetics that, for the most part, make better deer. Oklahoma could really have some GREAT deer, if people weren't so stupid.

I hunt private land, and there really isn't a whole lot of hunting pressure around me. The downside is, the amount of land I can hunt is not large enough to keep tabs on every buck in the area. This is the first year I have seen this deer, that is why I really don't know a whole lot about him. That is the whole reason for the post, just to see everyones opinion on the age and potential of the deer.

billygoat
Re: What\'s your opinion on this deer? I agree w/ the majority, if you think he might be 2.5 or he might still grow.... let him go. Next year you will know whether your decision was right or wrong and if he doesn't grow, remove him then. Good luck.
