WABS
I'd purchased a used Remington 870 Express 20 gauge a few weeks back and thought it would be a good opportunity to refinish my first stock. Finished the job last night and it looks pretty good if I have to say so myself. I'll try and get a few pictures taken and post them here. HarvDog
Re: Refinished 870 Stock Cool WABS! Can't wait to see the pictures. How did you refinish it? BTW, I didn't realize you were in Arlington. Howdy neighbor!!!
Tominator
Re: Refinished 870 Stock I've refinished my dad's 870, my Ithaca 37, my 870 Express, my Sears and Roebuck .410, and my Marlin 60. I also made a replacement stock for my Ithaca from scratch. It's fun, but it reduces the value of the gun.

WABS
Re: Refinished 870 Stock I only paid $140 for the gun so I figured I couldn't hurt the value too much. That's why I targeted this gun to use as my test case. I'll try and show a before and after picture

The only one I really worried about was my dad's 1958 Wingmaster, but to be honest, seems to me, the exposed wood on dad's gun would get ruined had I not put some kind of finish on it. WABS
Re: Refinished 870 Stock I've got the same issue with my Dad's Browning A5 Mag. The finish on the stock is in such bad shape, I guess it depends on whether or not you ever plan to sell it. For me it isn't an investment it is a memory and a piece of my Dad that I'll always have. So if I'm trying to keep it around for an entended period I should consider refinishing it. I like to still shoot it and I'd hate to resign it to staying in the gun case. There's at least 2 things I'd never get rid of so long as I'm alive. My Oliver 770 and my dad's 870. That Wingmaster is the first gun I ever shot. WABS
Re: Refinished 870 Stock If I can get Jonathan out of bed Saturday I'll probably have him just bring the New England single shot. He still struggles with the 870 because of the weight. He'll be limited to shooting a single shot but we can just pull singles for him.
