Adrenaline

My wife and I were out for an evening drive tonight. Very close to our apartments, there is a golf course and some thick woods, and huge houses. We were riding around checking out the houses, and lo and behold there are 2 P&Y bucks not 30 yards from the road! Being from Florida, I am definitely not used to seeing bucks of this quality on a regular basis, much less this close. Needless to say, my heart was still pumping when we drove past them the 7th time. I am going to do anything I can think of to see about hunting around there in September. Less than 2 miles from home!! Never would have guessed there would be deer right in Louisville.

Any thoughts/experience with urban hunting?

Will try to post pics if they are out tomorrow grin.gif

Re: Adrenaline

I hunt a farm that is smack dab in the middle of two towns and surrounding by subdivisions etc.

There is lots of bush areas on peoples properties surround the farm (5 acre parcels). It's no turkey shoot, but the deer are there.

You need to first check the hunting laws surrounding your community and find out where bow-hunting is legal, shooting etc, then just start driving around and knocking on doors of people who own larger parcels of land.

Have fun..I hope it pans out for you. wink.gif

I think I know the spot. Does it look like a wide powerline clearing? It goes downhill to the road and uphill to the apartments? I see them out there all the time.

Yes, there are powerlines and apartments very close by, and then the road crosses under I-71. I believe the road is Mockingbird Trail.

Do you know anything about the area? I'm sure some of the neighbors are tired of having their flowers eaten.....

Re: Adrenaline

I live 15 minutes from there. I live out in Buckner not too far from 71. I have to drive on 71 to get to one of my leases in Hardin County. Last summer I saw 3 booners out on that field. As far as I know, no one had permission to hunt that area. It might not be a bad idea to ask around about the possibility of a lease. You'd be surprised about how big of deer there are close to Louisville.

Re: Adrenaline

One of the biggest bucks ever shot in Pa. with a bow was taken last year right next to a major highway going thru Pittsburgh. Can;t remember the exact P&Y score but it was OVER 190. Many many people saw it , but only a small group of guys had permission to hunt the property. One of them ended up getting it.

Re: Adrenaline

Urban is all I hunt and you can get knee deep in those lawn browsers in most areas.

I took a massive 9pt. two years back within 150' of a house while the kids were on a swing set in the back yard.

Jeff Foxworthy material for sure smile.gif
