Bush Will Still Fire Leaker......

But now he says he will do it only if a crime was committed. I find it interesting that he has changed his mind since one of his closest friends is involved in this. If it had been some low-level White House basement staffer the person would already be gone. Bush is going back on his word, he promised to fire the person who leaked the info back when this first happened, regardless of the situation, now the person will be fired only if a crime was committed. Crime or no crime, this is a national security issue and Karl Rove has no business talking to reporters about anything involving the CIA.

Re: Bush Will Still Fire Leaker......

I think the whole problem here is that this situation is turning out to be something else besides a "leak". When it first started, everyone assumed that Plame's identity as a CIA employee was protected by law like all field operatives. But now that's in question since she had only worked at CIA headquarters, not in the field, for the past several years. Also, everyone was assuming that no one outside the CIA or the Whitehouse knew about her occupation, that has also changed. Rove actually did not know who or what she was until a reporter told him and then he repeated that information to another reporter. It was well known around Washington DC, and she made no attempt to keep it a secret, that she worked at the agency.

I think there's still more to sort out, but right now I'm guessing that this is mostly a media driven event and that Rove was not the original leaker. In fact, there may not have been anything to leak at all.

Don't matter too much. Bush can always fire rove, then give him a pardon.

It would be hard for Bush to Fire his Political Mastermind. Rove is without a doubt one of the best political consultants and advisers that any President could have.

Without Rove, there is no Bush.

As far as pardons are concerned, I would bet money that Bernard Ebbers walks out of jail the same day George Bush leaves the White House in January 2009.
